Being inspired by Joel's beautiful race car builds, I thought it was about time I got started on an open wheeler of my own.

The subject is Tamiya's 1/20 1965 Honda RA272.
Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

Not a lot to show just yet, other than a mix of prepped/semi prepped parts. The detail and quality of the parts are not all that impressive. A lot more flash and tool misalignment than we usually see on Tamiya kit's. More to come, once I get some parts painted.

They certainly are inspiring builds, great to see you jumping in to a new build here Jesper. Following with much interest.

It sounds like the moulds got cleaned up at some stage because Rowan didn’t pick up the same issues in his review kit.

Have done a bit of work on the Honda F1.

All parts have been primed and some have been painted.

Body panels have been primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000. Wow, that stuff is great. Sprayes on so smooth.
Tamiya Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

A lot of parts primed with Army painter matt black and then painted with Tamiya semi-gloss black.

And finally parts primed with Mr. Surfacer, then painted in various AK-interactive Xtreme metal and mix of Tamiya gold and silver chrome.

Looking good Jesper!
I agree on your primer choice having used it myself for the first time with the DS.

Look at these two videos. The sound, of that little 1,5L. V12 is fantastic. They start up slowly and build up revs.

As Vettel, so elegantly, put it, on sunday, "Bring back the ****V12's"

Hi Jesper, really nice work on the engine - very sharp, crisp colors that don’t hide the details. Tires and wheels look great too. Looking forward to your next update!

Beautiful work Jesper, this build is moving along really well. Those wheels and tyres could be mistaken for the 1:1 item easily, and the engine details pop out nicely with the PLW.

I'm loving the level of activity and the variety of builds we have going now.

Engine is done.
Tamiya Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

The lower exhaust pipes were quite an ordeal to fit. I almost gave up and made it the slant six Honda never made.
After, what felt like hours, they finally fell into place, so in the end, it ended as a V12.

Brake sub-assembly done.

Body panels got the first couple of coats, of Tamiya racing white.

Coming along nicely Jesper. I love vintage F1, the technology was so much more impressive than the computer controls of today.

Since there's been two builds of this kit and I really like the results I'm seeing, I bought one this week and should have it shortly. In addition, here's a link for some photos.

Really nice work on the kit.

Gotta pay more attention, almost missed this. I agree with your comment about the flash and alignments. Lots of tedious clean up. I am still amazed I managed to clean up all the struts/linkages with a single break. And since I melted my engine cowl I was happy to see your box top

Welcome aboard Marc. Even though there is a lot more clean up, than we usually se, with Tamiya, everything fits well, as we are used to see, from Tamiya.

Gave the body parts two finale coats, of Tamiya racing white lacquer.
Very pleased, with the result. The lacquer sprayed on smooth and glossy.
Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

Waited a week before adding the decals.
Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

Honda RA272" BORDER="0">

Still more decal work to do.

Masked of the metal areas, with Tamiya masking tape, before applying the racing white. Fortunately no bleeding, very pleased with that.
The black areas are brushpainted.

Excellent job on the body colour Jesper, it has come up beautifully.

The detail painting and decals set it off nicely. Looking forward to more progress.

Almost done.

Dash decaled and painted. Initially I didn't paint the back, of the dash, until I dry fitted and saw the back was visible. A quick run, with a brush and some acrylics and in it went.
