.... So for tires/wheels you use Anthrazite. Exactly what is it, and can you post a link to the paint/color for me?

Joel

Thanks Joel!
The paint I use comes from Revell Germany and is called No. 36109 Anthrazite, though I'm not sure, if you can get Revell paints in the US. Sure not at the moment ....
https://www.revell.de/en/products/colors-accessories/aqua-colours/aqua-color-anthracite-grey-matt-18ml.html
It's also known as RAL 7021 Schwarzgrau (Blackgrey), a german standard, but widely used. You might look for this on other paint brands.
As I said, I use this colour on all tyres of my builds, aircraft and AFV. Here are the tyres painted on my MAN 5 to truck I've built during last years Logistic Campaign on Armorama, so you get an idea how it looks like ....

Of course, it didn't stay that way after some weathering ....

Take care!

Torsten,
Thanks for the link and the pictures. Revell calls it:
Aqua Color, Anthracite Grey, Matt. and the sample does indeed look like rubber. Tamiya makes a rubber color but I've never remembered to order it. In my aircraft days, before I discovered Nato Black, I used a very dark German Gray. Close, but not quite there. Nato Black looks very close to Anthracite Grey, and that's what I still use these days.

Joel, quote / unquote "for a half blind old man" you're doing wonders! You gotta be seeing better with your fingertips! Just teasing - I'm really sad to hear you're being added even more weight to your life but I like the spirit: for how long you still can fight, you're doing a heck of a job.

The interior looks spot-on, no arguing on that and no extra comment. "Taking your time" it's your modelling staple and produces exceptional results. I wish I had your patience sometimes. The fire extinguisher straps, the seat belts and the dash have received a royal treatment from you. Great wotk!

D & Russell,
Thanks guys for checking out my interior update, and your collective thumbs up. Coming from the core guys here, it means a lot to me.

Just knew that the Red Harness assembly would make a huge difference, and the instrument glass is how I'm using up my HUGE bottle of Pledge. I can't die from the Virus yet because I still have a good 25 years worth of the stuff to use up 1st

Gabriel,
I'm sincerely humbled by your thoughts. Believe me, I do struggle with sight. You'd be amazed at the number of detail painting & gluing issues I constantly have to deal with. Fortunately, I can correct most of them, the rest I just kind of live with.

I've long ago given up on the concept of rushing my work, or spending more time at the bench then I want to just so that I can get to the next build. Same reasoning applies to only having one build going at a time other then research of course. In the end, the time for each remains the same, but requires more focus that I have these days.

These days, the sharing with all of you is as important to me as the building is.

Joel, you are a bit of an inspiration around these parts: You overcome your eyesight challenges and still manage to build such high quality models to share with us and keep us motivated!

Hats off to you sir!

Russell,
Thank you my friend for those words. I do struggle, and my wife says that I curse way to much while at my bench. I just try my best and plug away at it. If my focus is of help to any of you, then I've succeeded to a far greater goal then I thought possible.

Just wanted to let you guys know that a little while ago the 935 K3 powered over the finish line. Yep, she's done. Or so I thought. Another really careful look showed a few issues that needed a little clean up. So I've got all but two issues resolved.

Will be taking my final pictures over the next few days, and then posting them.

Well, I finally got my Nunu Porsche 935 K3 across the finish line. As over the last 10 days I added all the little details including:

1-The front radiator, PE radiator front plate, & PE radiator screen.
2-Airbrushed the rubber molding on all the glass including the headlight lenses using the Nunu masks that I bought as an addon. Unfortunately, most of the masks weren't sized correctly, so I had to touch up areas, and trim the masks where I could.
3-Installed all the glass.
4-Airbrushed the PE screens for the various intakes Nato Black, then when dry installed them. The fit was perfect for all of them except the 2 turbo charger radiator intake ones.
5-Glossed the tires, then added the Indy Cal Goodyear decals that had a slightly smaller radius then what my tires were, but good is enough. Glossed the decals when dry, then Flat coated them. Finally installed the tires which are always an adventure into just how much pressure you need without breaking any of the pins.
6- All the various little details on the hood including the gas intake recepticle which I had decaled right over the opening on the hood.

And with that she's done and in her garage spot. Pictures this morning that I've uploaded to ImageShack which isn't working correctly, as I can't see any of my pictures. So I'll try to get them uploaded here, but I can't see what order they're in nor even if they actually show up. there's a few posts online about this issue, so who knows just how long it's going to take to get fixed.

Thanks to all that have stayed the course, and kept me focused thoughtout this build. Honestly, the Nunu kit was a pure please to build, and I highly recomend it and their other kits.

Joel

Though I don't know much about building civil or racing cars this is a great build of you, Joel. I'm always pleased to see how perfect your builds look, regarding your eye problems. Kudos to you!

Stay healthy over there!

David, Nick, and Torsten,
Thanks so much guys for your major cudos on how the 935 K3 turned out. As I said, the kit is great, and was an absolute joy to build. Any mistakes were mostly mine.

I gotta say that this paint job is by far the best one I've ever done, as up close and personal, I finally achieved a smooth as silk, mile deep shine.

Will be posting my GB builds later tonight. Yep, you read it right, I'm planning on building two models, and both are open wheel cars this time.

Superb build Joel, you should be very proud of this one. Beautiful detailing and paint finish, and great job on such a complex decal set, all round excellent work! As always, a comprehensive build thread that was detailed and informative all the way.

Very much looking forward to your Race GB dual build now.

Great detailing and finishing, Joel. I'm sure you overlooked - you might want to add a droplet of black paint inside the exhaust pipes. Other than that, the model looks impeccable and, with the perfectly applied decals, the final appearance makes from this model the brightest jewel of your collection.

Thanks guys for your collective thumbs up. As usual, they're all greatly appreciated.

Michael,
I've finally come to a decision about my next build which will be for our new GB. My long range building plan was one closed wheel, then one open wheel build, and just build one, replace one in my small stash as my ever advancing years really doesn't favor large stashes to be built in my retirement (in my 3rd year of retirement now). None of those principles have I managed to maintain. So much for advance planning.

Right now I'm planning for my official build the Tamiya 1/20th Camel sponsored Lotus 99T (1st release) that Senna drove. Hopefully I can kick this one up a few notches if I can get the engine cover to seat flush but still be removable.

D,
You betcha that this decaling effort was the most complicated one to date. Much harder in fact then the pin striping I did on the JPS Lotus 72E and the JPS Mustang. What I'm always most proud of is the responses I get to my detailed build blogs. Not only does it help answer common questions, but it also helps me figure out problems I'm having as we all discuss them as they come up.

As I just posted, my official GB build is the Tamiya 99T Lotus. The following build will be the AMT 1/25 scale Lola T88-00 that Mario Andretti drove for the Newman Haas Cart team in 1988. These little kits are rather simplified by today's kit standards, and come with their own set of problems. I've got several in my stash, but never built one yet. I'm looking forward to it.

Marc,
the 935 K3 is parked right next to my 935 K2. They really make quite a statement IMHO.

Gabriel,
How right you are. I completely forgot to blacken the insides of the exhausts. Once I moved on from their install, it just never crossed my mind till I saw those pictures. So I'll be doing it asap. This build, as so many I've done in the racing car nitch of our hobby, have special meanings and importance to me. Whether it's the driver, car, team, or even the race, each one brings back memories that this old timer takes comfort in.

Now on to my next build.

Rowan,
Thanks for the thumbs up. As for the comparison to your build speed, I think it's fair to say that I'm a Gold Metal Olymic Sprinter.

Russell my friend,
Thanks so much for your huge thumbs up, as I certainly appreciate it.

I, like so many of you put a lot of effort into our build blogs, that is both a shared experience with our members, and our way to help those that are looking for a few answers to issues they're having. Personally, I really enjoy it.

My next build is for the new GB: Strip, Track, & Trail. Which is the older Tamiya Camel Lotus Honda. Just taking a really close look at it yesterday, and it's certainly got some very interesting challenges.

Joel
