Nah, the cowl is fine, I was just in a bit of hurry taking these photos. The cowl is indeed removable. I added extended length metal pins to hold it in place. After you asked the question, I went back and looked at the photos and my bigger discovery is that the wheels look to be out of alignment, which is weird, in that they are made of relatively few parts, and no moving pieces. This could well go back to my early observations about the fit of some parts on this kit, which aren't great. Tho, I think it was you who found out, this is a fifth generation reboxing!

As I noted in the final post for this project, I find this to be sort of a strange build, in that parts of it look super (despite some questionable fits) - I think the cockpit and engine both turned out pretty well, though they received a fair amount of attention by me, and when observed from the right viewing points, the car (design) looks pretty good, though the latter is more of an editorial, than a statement about the kit. It looks fine on the "done" shelf, the shiny blue is a nice change from red, black, and white builds.

I've got an MP4/13 Mercedes I'd like to build next, but am waiting for parts - from BNA. My guess is I'll be done with another kit before they get here!. I've got a Lotus with some really cool, Studio 27 white metal/etch parts that I want to try, a Penske - PC4, which is a full Studio 27 kit, and....a Ferrari F310B, with some etch. The kits are fairly diverse, because following my self imposed rule, this project will only use kits that were on sale! So - this guy will ponder what's next.

BNA is working hard, my deliveries generally turn up in a day or two (in a straight line I live about 45 km away from their warehouse!). The lack of international flights is what is killing the OS shipments.

Yes, I'm a pretty big fan of BNA - they carry all sorts of parts, and are very reliable. The COVID situation is impacting all delivery systems, public or private. While slow, orders are still getting to me. I received the parts I ordered two days ago, so will likely start the project in the next few days.

Work is taking priority for now, albeit a bit strange - I haven't seen any of my colleagues in real time in a few months, we are all working out of our homes. Just by coincidence, I purchased a laptop and new internet service slightly before all of this began - clearly good ideas - I'd be in a real bind if I hadn't.

My apologies for taking so long to post on your Ferrari C126-2(?). I'm just super impressed at your detailing, and certainly your metal work. I struggle just with PE these days. the finished build is certainly an eye grabber as one doesn't see many C126s these days.

I totally missed your Tyrell P34 build for some reason as auto notifications just didn't catch it. I'm glad to see that you still remember how to work with kit plastic parts . the engine ignition wiring as well as the fuel lines look dead on to me. As usual the paint, decaling, and clear coating is just perfect.

Hello guys,

Time to start another race car. My big plan was to get rolling on another big Peterbilt. Turns out with the Covid and whatnot, it will take a guy a while to build up the parts department - and, turns out KS metal stopped making their 3/16" wide brass strip!! this is sort of a big deal - as, 3/16" width strip is almost perfect for 4" wide leaf springs. I found myself searching high and low for any remnants that were out there. Seems I found a source, but the parts haven't arrived. Also need another front axle, tires/wheels - you get it - not ready to start this project.

So, back to my little stash of el-cheapo F1 kits I went and alas, and found the Studio27 PC4 in 1/20. Under normal times, this is NOT and el cheapo kit, at all. Any of you who have followed this thread might recall that: A) I know nothing about F1 cars; B) I certainly don't have and favorites; and C) the mission was to find inexpensive F1 cars with interesting details.

I found this on line for about $120 with shipping - clearly not the same as the $35 I spent on the P34, but - wow - too good of a deal to pass on.

Quite a pile of good times! My kind of kit! Hope to have something posted next week.

I've used Studio27 detail kits before and like them - didn't even know they made them. I found this at website that appeared to be closing out their auto inventory, so, had to grab it.

Understatement of the year right there!

This looks very interesting and quite a challenge for you Nick, I'm looking forward to following your adventures here. I'm not brave enough to tackle this level of multi-media just yet!

Does look like a pile fun. I see individual exhausts in the white metal stack. Should be fun sorting that combo out on a V8. The body looks very nice and clean. Looking forward to your adventure.

Just noticed some WIP in the far RHS of frame, have you made a start already?

Michael, yep, the headers are individual tubes - yuck! The only upside is I've worked with white metal before, and like building a tube chassis, I'll probably add metal pins to the connecting points on the block to assist with fitting. Seems to me the hardest part is getting them to sit at the correct height and orientation to accept the collector - and not have exhaust aiming in some bad direction!

And D, wow! you spotted that rearend - it's not part of this build - in fact, I don't exactly remember what it came off! haha - maybe the price paid for building, tearing apart, scavenging, but never throwing away what might some day be useful to have around! lol I don't even remember if it's from an F1 or road car? - oh well, looking at it again, it looks pretty nice!

Hopefully I'll get into this in the next few days. Something I'm not excited about is the distributor cap, which is rubber! I've never seen one of those before. I assumed it would be white metal or resin and I'd just drill it out for wiring. No luck. The rubber is very similar to what I've seen on other DFV/Ford ignition wire boots.

A dimple is provided, but no hole - which means you need to make a hole, or in this case, 9 holes, for the sparks and coil, then force your wires through. I think I ran into that on the P34? I used white metal cam covers, which required the use of a similar sleeve/plug for each wire. This was a surprisingly tedious task.

Oh well - a guy will just figure it out when the time comes -
