so it's just the Ferrari name plate I have to source. Any suggestions?

Just type "1/24 Ferrari Decals" in Google search bar, dozens of options. Hopefully something close to you!

I still haven't officially signed up for the Dreams are Free GB, as I've been trying to come up with a meaningful entry that actually was a dream car of mine.

Being one who marched to the tune of a different drum, I usually had a street car that I wanted. My beloved 1967 MGB, and then my sleeper 1970 Ford Mustang with a 302ci under the hood. But what I use to dream about was race cars. Before I went into Enduro Karting, I use to do time trials with my B at Bridgehampton and parking lot time trials. After a few trips to the New Hampshire race track to watch the SCCA National races, I fell head over heals in love with Shelby Ford Cobras; either 289 or 427. What a race show they put on.

More then a few times I brought up the subject to my father about any possibility to buying one with my college fund. Of course Dad was much wiser then I, and always said NO

So, after really thinking about it, the logical build for me is a Shelby Cobra. I'm going with the old 1/24 scale Monogram 427 kit with this as the goal:

you'll quickly notice that one car as a street wind shield while the other has one of the many homemade racing wind shields. The foreground car is a 427 while the rear car looks to be a 289. Paint color, stripe or no stripe, number, etc are all questions that I've got to answer for this build.

Joel

Excellent choice and really meaningful back story Joel, and I’m really glad that you are able to join in for the next adventure. It just wouldn’t be the same without you!

Excellent choice and story Joel.

I was looking at the stash the other night and my initial entry was going to be the Polar Lights 2005 Ford GT, but I got to thinking about what was my first love too. Road racing.

I'd been an SCCA Solo 2 and Club Racing participant and if I hadn't gotten married and had a kid, I would have tried to go further even though I was average at best. I was thinking about changing to the Tamiya GT4 Mustang as that would be the dream ride for me. Decisions, decisions.

I'll probably stay with the GT and then do the GT4, but not sure yet.

David & D,
Thanks guys for your insight into my choice of entry. And like you David, racing was my obsession. Moving up into maybe even Trans Am under 2 liter if I could ever figure out how to get a sponsor or two was my secret goal in life.

I was better then the average guy out there, but none of us were SCCA National level for sure. I beat guys with Elva Couriers at the Bridgehampton time trails, and their cars were full race. Just lucky I guess. Enduro Karting was my slim chance to make it to the next level. Took 3 years to win a regional championship, but then my one and only big, bad accident that wasn't my fault but the results were the same. Real lucky to have walked away from that one, but I finally realized just how dangerous my racing really was. So I fixed the Kart and sold it. Got married, and you know what, I always regretting that decision. Just maybe the constant pressure from my parents to stop racing had a lot to do with it. Who knows, but plastics let me relive those glory days as does all the racing on Cable TV.

David, just from what you said, I'd go with the Tamiya GT4.

Only a couple of days to go folks, get those Dream Rides out and close to the bench!

P.S. Here's a Candy Nomad for good measure!

D,
While I never was into customs and street rods, I always loved the Nomads. Just one super cool Dude of a wagon that you could actually buy at the dealer.

I've got my bench fully converted over to the the Cobra Build and started to checkout the moldings. Not bad for a kit this old, but plenty of flash and mold seems to keep me quite busy.

I want to do my build as I did my MGB: Street/Solo Time Trial car. It was about 3/4 race but legal on the street. My parents hated it for the nose it made, and my girl hated it because of the super stiff suspension. I loved it for what it represented, especially in my dreams.

One thing that I did to save weight was to remove the windshield at the time trails and just use the plastic wind screen I fabricated that fit right behind the dashboard. So the Cobra will have both. Just not sure if one, or both will be on the car.

As you can tell I'm already itching to get started with this build.

Joel, I am looking forward to seeing your Cobra take shape. They're a great looking car!

I'm guessing it's not a Chevy Nomad then? Damian will be disappointed!

Think I just may dedicate my Cobra build to my Dad who never budged in all the years I came up with plans and schemes to get one.

So Dad, this one's for you.

Jesper just finished a nice CANDY '55 Nomad, so he gets special consideration

We've got some cool builds lined up for this Group Build, I only hope we can continue the great results that we are getting in the current one!

Joel, that is an awesome action shot! What a classic car, I can hear the V8 and smell the rubber and see that thing drift by right on the edge of control. Great motivation as well, a tribute to your Dad. I'm doing the same thing with the 2021 Commercial Truck Group Build as I will be building the same kit that was the last one my dad finished before he died 3 years ago.

It's just ticked over midnight here so 24 hours until I can get started on the Nomad

D,
Another great dedication. Which just might be a great GB theme. Each build would have to have a dedication to someone, to something, to some event that has a personal meaning, and even a time frame that the vehicle was the motivating factor.

That's another great suggestion Joel, I'm adding that one to the list! I'm sure everybody here has a kit or a car that has some personal significance and what better way to honour that. My other dedication would be the 1/12 Mercedes 300SL I managed to find recently, which was the first kit that my father actually let me physically help to build.

Anyway, back to business, it is only 2-1/2 hours until October 1 down here in the Great Southern Land, and I'm just itching to get my hands on that '57 Nomad, so I have created the Official Dreams Are Free group Build Thread to get things going. Our Group Build Leader Michael (Cosimodo) is already in October and has true geographical pole position, so truth be known he might already be half way through his build

Anyway, I will leave this thread open for further discussion, but please start posting in the new thread as you like.

Best of luck to everybody with your Dream Builds.
