I have been trying to post pictures for a few days now and it always tells me the server is busy. This has been getting worse over time and is getting pretty annoying.

Michael, it's been unreliable for quite a while now and is definitely getting worse. I gave up on using it months ago and use Imgur now. No need to resize images and the links work in other forums as well.

Michael,
Same here. I use ImageShack as my 3rd party host, and it works perfectly in uploading pictures here. As D said, I also use their resizing options so I don't even have to do that any more. For me max size to the forum is 1260/1024.

It's too bad the gallery is progressively fading into the state of disrepair/lack of dependability, as I like(d) it.

I've read complaints about how hard it is to post here over the years, but have never been certain if that complaint is about the gallery, or posting on Kitmaker in general? I've had pretty good luck with both.

When the gallery works (when the server is not "busy"), I think it's fine and pretty easy to navigate, use, and post from.

I find the gallery to be a nice part of membership - and have used it for all of my projects - it's pretty fun to go back and look at the albums now and then.

I'm gathering the gallery will go away with the new site format - but don't know this for certain - I'd like to know - as my Paypal is set for monthly payment here - so I guess I'll need to end that some time before Kitmaker and the gallery disappears (is reinvented that is!).

Will a formal notification regarding the end of Kitmaker be sent out? If not, how will we know when to formally end our memberships?

Hopefully the gallery keeps limping along - maybe it's tuned up a bit and lasts a while more.

Ok - on we go.

Nick

I am in Nick's position for this. I pay Kitmaker for the gallery so I a bit more proactivity from the site would be useful. If the gallery is going to be dead then I should cancel the payment now. Do we lose everything on it?

cheers

Hello gents -

Does anyone know what the status of membership and the gallery is?

The gallery has been struggling along for several months - I have been under the impression that some effort was being made to improve its performance, but it doesn't seem to be improving, maybe getting more unpredictable and less reliable.

Is there a firm cut-off date for Kitmaker in it's current form? and by extension, will members (including paying) be notified formally of what to do with existing accounts?

Yes - I've been paying attention to the beta testing for a while - which seems fine, and now, I'd like to know about membership transition etc.

Thanks
Nick

Nick, I haven't seen a firm date for the complete changeover to the new site. I saw one comment from Jim that he was hoping to have it done by years end, but I'm unsure of how that is looking.

From what I understand the new site will be funded via Patreon subscriptions, not the current PayPal subscription, and as the images are loaded directly into the post as you go, there is no "Gallery" as such.

I would encourage everybody to go and create a new user profile on the BETA site and start posting there, it is quite simple and I've found the site very user friendly, and much better to navigate and track threads and posts than the Facebook forums that I use. You can use your Facebook or Google accounts to log in or create a new user account, and also use a two-stage security login if you want.

I have copied my BMW thread across, and Joel and I have also copied the current "Dreams are Free" group build progress across.

Cheers, D

Hi D,

Thanks for the summary. I log in via google - Automodeler.kitmaker.net, or Armorama etc no problems. Reading between the lines it sounds like the gallery is just going to fade away or fall apart. Will it be maintained (albeit loosely) through the end of the year? I like posting from it.

Thanks
Nick

Guess I haven't been paying attention; I haven't heard of this before I read this post. Where is this new site?

Thanks D.

Will our profiles be migrated as well or do we have to sign up again?

It's a totally new platform Jesper, you will need to create a new user profile. You can log in using your existing Google or Facebook accounts if you prefer.
