BTW are you located in Guelph, my Moms side of the family came from there, she lived over on Oxford street and Norfolk street, great town. My grandmother was the Librarian for years.

It's a nice university town. It's grown drastically over the last 10 years! We live at the south end by Sleemans brewery.

Okay, I've just submitted the campaign for approval.

I too hope it will kick off as planned. Though if not we can always make it an informal group build

Nice pick Joe! Is that a kit or are you going to have to kit-bash.... Full interior or curbside?

Grzegorz it's going to be a combination of many parts, I have a Mustang pro stock kit. I will be using resin wrinkle slicks, scratchbuilding a rollcage and floor pan, and the decals will be made along with the smaller ones from Slixx.com

Hi

I am interested I have Charles Carpenters 1955 Chev race car to build.

I can't let Joe have all the fun and build the only drag car.

Hey Joe, if this campaign gets approval you'd better spend less time on cosmetics and more time building your motor. I've got some MOPAR Hemi muscle sitting around here that'll give you a run for your money.
Don't know if it'll be a Hemi Cuda', Hemi Dart, or a 440 6-pack Road Runner yet.

Hi Hermon

Saw your comments laying down the challenge to poor Joe.

I note that he was pretty vague about the performance side of things but I personally always have a healthy respect for the other brands of the Big Three and knowing a little about Joe I know his build will not be shy of horsepower.

He is like me an ex drag racer so my build will definitely not be shy of some tyre shredding power after all Charles Carpenters race car is known as "the Worlds fastest 55 Chev".

I realise all this banter is tongue in cheek.

Regards

Hermon, the campaign was approved not so long ago and you've even signed up for it yesterday or so if I remember correctly?

Sean, you can sign up for "Gentlemen - start your engines!" under this link

That's great Sean. Then there are three of us ex-gear heads in the campaign now.
I'd be interrested to know what kind of cars you and Joe raced. Any pictures lying around you'd want to share? I raced a 72 Cuda' for 2 years........nothing special but loads of fun. However that was before a wife and two kids. I only get to watch NHRA and IHRA on TV now.
I'm really looking forward to this build as I'm really getting burned out on the airplanes right now.
Not to be long winded....but this will be my first attempt at a model car so it's nice to know some ex-racers will be in the group so I can bug ya'll with questions about where to get hold of some good stuff.

Hermon,
Yeah I can dig up some photos, I love to show off from time to time. I even worked as an NHRA official. I started in the burnout box, and moved on to a tech inspector. The best part…I had the chance to meet many of the big boys. Did that part time on the weekends for fun. I had an accident (not race related) that took me out of the car and off the track in 99’ I came back in 02’ to write for the track paper, but that in it’s self was stressful on my body and had to end that at the years end. I sure do miss it. But yeah I’ll dig some up tomorrow and post them.

Joe, good deal on the pictures. Can't wait to see them. I have a few around here of my old purple fish I might try and sneak in here.
My racing experience was "low budget" and in two years I only won 2 races, and both of those were because the other guys blew engines :-)
I built my own car from the ground up......including 3 engines, one tranny, 4...yes 4 rear ends. Just as I was getting the hang of all this the wife decided to start having babies. I still get to go to Bristol every once in a while but thats about as close as I get to a track now. Back in the late 90's I was at Bristol, eating a hotdog with my then 4 year old son. My son dropped his icecream on the ground and started crying. Big Daddy Don walked up out of the clear blue and and handed my son a brand new cup of ice cream and spent the next 45 minutes talking to me like I was his long lost buddy. Talk about a good day......

Hermon

BTW, I was at Bristol when Shirley Muldowny broke the 300 mph mark snatching the new trak record back in the 90's. Right after the race I went to her pit while the crew were breaking down her engine. My wife and I were standing there and Shirley picked up a "cooled down" and cleaned up rod from that engine, signed it and handed it to my wife. Pretty cool.

Matt, '64 Ipala is just fine, as long as you can show us photo of one that was of racing type. I assume a drag Impala would be the closest shot. You can find the rules and regs for the campaign and of course sign up for it on the campaign paige

Cheers

Hi Pedro,

Would love to join this campaign but with three already signed up for I will wait until nearer the time to see if I can fit this in as well. Hopefully will have two campaigns done by then.

If I join will be doing a FIAT 131 Rallye from Italeri

Ciao

Hi Luciano!

Good to hear you're interested in the campaign, and hopefully you will be able to join.
I was also thinking about doing the FIAT or Lancia Stratos , or both after I finish Mercedes 300 SLR.

Happy modeling!
