1951 Bel Air Single Kit Group Build

One of my local hobby shops has teamed up with a local model paint manufacturer to run a competition with all proceeds going to the charity that supports our local Children's Hospital. The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal has been running since 1931, and in that time has raised over $345 Million through the goodwill of the people, and all goes into helping run the hospital. Individuals, businesses, clubs, schools, even entire country towns run events and parties and other fundraising activites every year for this appeal.
In our little contribution here, the LHS has made available 45 identical kits, the paint manufacturer 45 bottles of paint (colour of your choice), each builder pays basically retail price the proceeds of which go to the appeal. We all had 3 months to complete and return our builds to the LHS where there was an anonymous display and judging in OOB and Modified categories, and the winner in each category selected from a range of prizes up to over $400 in value.
30 kits were taken up by builders, a few couldn't finish in time or couldn't get back for display for genuine reasons, but today we had 20 on display and had a great day chatting and building and a BBQ lunch.
There was some great creativity and imagination put forward. The music box diorama was something I've never seen before and would never think of doing, but it was amazing. The crashed car was technically OOB because the tree was made from the melted sprue and unused parts. The limo was made from two kits and the little diorama from all of the unused parts. The Graffiti "Bel Air on a stick" won the modified category, and the two tone yellow and black won the OOB and overall votes. The Graffiti Bel Air used resin parts, scratch built details and home made decals and plaster base. The overall winner was just an awesome clean build and super smooth paint job. Every build was impressive in its own right and a great display of our new local paint manufacturer The Scale Modellers Supply, as well as a credit to the local talent.
It looks like this event will be run twice yearly, with all proceeds being accumulated and donated to the Royal Children's Hospital here in Melbourne. This event raised about $600 through purchases and cash donations on the day.
