Introduction

With the release of the stunning 1/9th scale Kawasaki Ninja H2 from Meng they have decided to make a rider available for those who want one. Meng has moved away from the conventional figures with this release and offers a figure more akin to Manga or Anima in appearance. So offered here is a full resin figure in 1/9th scale to accompany the Kawasaki Ninja.

Review

This offering arrives in a card box with a separate card lid, inside is dense foam with cut outs to protect the various parts of the figure. An examination of the parts does not reveal any major issues that can be an issue with resin such as air bubbles in the castings which are the most common issue faced when using resin parts. The pour plugs have also been thoughtfully placed in order that clean up of parts should be an easy affair.

The figure being in the Manga and Anima style could put people off, but the physique is not excessively sexualised and everything you expect to be covered is. The attention to detail is very good with replication of every aspect of the clothing being spot on. The model could for the most part be painted prior to assembly with the exception of the arms and the hands and so making painting easier than it might otherwise be.

The face of the figure looks a little bland as regards expression, but all of the needed facial elements are present. Due to this following the Japanese comic styles the eyes of the figure seem overly large, but finding decals for the eyes is a nice touch. The hair is an interesting approach as it is quite angular and so it will take some colour application to obtain the depth of colour and tone to get a pleasing finish.

Conclusion

This release is a bit of a Marmite model in that you will hate it or love it. Detail wise I cannot criticise it as everything seems to be spot on, but having seen the bike model and been impressed the figure I would like to have seen would be a realistic figure rather than a cartoon one. The parts fit is exceptional and so making for great introduction to resin.
