introduction
The
Tamiya LaFerrari is an excellent kit right out of the box, although improvements can always be made. To add a little extra “pop” to the base kit Tamiya has released two detail-up sets, one in the form of carbon fiber pattern decals and a photo-etch set that will be reviewed here.
the set
This detail set contains 1 PE fret measuring approximately 3” x 4.5” and an instruction sheet. The fret contains 22 pieces, plus a nameplate for a base, in a connection free style. No connection points mean no clean-up of the parts, just peel them off the backing and they are ready to use. The main kit instructions notate the steps where the PE set is to be used by a
DP symbol, and the detail set instructions relate back to the step and page number which makes using this set very convenient.
The PE set replaces the 11 nylon mesh parts from the base kit, along with the clear/decaled parts to simulate screens. Also included are the air deflectors for the electric cooling fans at the front of the car which are not included in the main kit. The rear tag holder in PE should look better than the kit supplied styrene one too.
Bends are kept to a bare minimum with only slight forming needed on some parts, no special tools required, making this a perfect set for beginners and those that really do not enjoy photo-etch due to the extra work involved.
conclusion
This set should add that little extra in high visible areas. Virtually ready to use makes this set easier than cutting out the kit supplied mesh…how many PE sets can claim that! The very clear instructions will also make this a joy to use.
