Looking good Jesper, i like the shading on your interior with the oil paints, the chassis is also coming along, the engine wiring and fuel lines look good and bring the engine to life. Great work so far.

Thanks guy's.
I worked more on the BMF last night. BMF is great, but you need to be quite patient. It's a good thing to work a bit on it and then do something else.
Yesterday I base coated the body. Probably have to redoo it. The BMF I had added prior to painting didn't look good. So I guess I have to remove it, sand down and repaint. If I'm lucky I only need to repaint a small part of the body.
I usually base coat with a cheap spraypaint, from the local hardware store. Never had any problems. I have heard a lot of good things about Dupli color, so I wanted to give them a try.
Dupli acryllics cost twice the price of my usual brand and sprayed half as good. Bummer.

Me too.
I like the Krylon "big cans" because it's a good base coat paint and ya get a much better bargain for the amount of paint you get.
When I do buy a good top coat paint like Dupli-color, I tend to do a lot more prep work on the body and more cautionary processes to the paint like shaking well for twice as long, warming the can in hot water to enhance flow and popping the nozzle off and cleaning it after every spray.
I mean, ya gotta make the most of a $9.00 mini-can of freakin' paint!

Shot a coat of red last night. Didn't really turn out like I had planed. The paintjob looks ok, but the color is far from what I had pictured in my mind. i started out by mixing Humbrol orange and Humbrol Ferrari red, to get the orange/redish color that was so clear in my mind. Took quite a lot of red to darken the orange and I ended up with a strange pale red
I tried to fix this with a small amount of Burgundy and then a little more Burgundy and a little more etc. etc. Finally I ended up with a color very close to Humbrol's Ferrari red
Well I had used so much paint and at 3$ a can I just had to use it.
Very red body and very red interior I just have to do some graphics. Hope I have time for it. Campaign ends in 3½ week.
Will upload pictures soon.

Here are the promised pictures of the painted body. Will polish it in a few days. Perhaps give it another coat. The color is a bit darker in real life, than in the pictures.

Hey dude,
That doesn't look bad at all! I hope my Deora's paint comes out that nice.

What can you tell me about that do-hicky you're using to hold the body? THAT could be VERY useful!

Hi Mike
The do-hicky is Tamiya's painting stand set.
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tam/tam74522.htm
Bought it not long ago. This is the first time I use it. Very recomendable. Should have bought one years ago.

Looks great. I can't wait to see the finished product.
I was building this kit as well but it had um a bit of an accident. I decided to copy the box art myself, here are a few shots of mine before it was demolished, maybe it'll help with some inspiration.

Not trying to hijack mind you, just hoping to provide some inspiration and share something of the same build.

Thanks James and Michael.
Michael: Inspiration is always welcome. My plan was to paint the body red and add ghostflames in a lighter shade of the body color, but with a red interior and red body, it's just to much red. I know it's pimp a ride, but a contrast is needed. I think some black graphics will be good.

I may be a little late with this info but here it is anyway. Check out this site, if you do some browsing you'll see they have "Mini" stencil sets, skulls, flames and "live flames" and what-not. They also provide a tutorial DVD on how to do live flames. I was considering getting it but I just bought a house and money is REALLY tight.
The Chevell is comming out nice for sure.

Sorry guys, didn't finish in time.
Finished the interior, engine and undercarriage. The body still needs another coat of red and the graphics. Will shot a coat of red later today.

Here's a little update from me.
Gave the body an extra coat of red and polished it. I am fairly pleased with the paintjob, but a few flaws in the coat of primer I haven't been able to cover. Have yet to give it the final polish.
I have put on some of the BFM. Will wait with the rest until I have painted the black flames.
Finished the interior and the engine/undercarriage.
I have just finished drawing the flames on the Tamiya masking tape. Will start cutting it later tonight.

Thanks mike
Me too, this will be my first go at flames.
I took of the masking tape. Put it on a table and started to cut it. Not difficult, but rather time consuming.
I have dicided to paint the flames black. The red interior/exterior needs a big contrast.

I painted the black flames yesterday. Unfortunately the Aztec nozzle I had planed to use died on me, so I had to use a fine line nozzle. Not the best one for the job, but it sprayed ok.
The flames look great, from six feet away
The paint bled through a few places and the paint chipped a wee bit, so I'm not all that pleased with it. I'll have to try and fix it some how.
Will take a picture as soon as posible.

Jesper,
I'm new to hobby and wonder how you mask the BMF before you paint it? How long do you leave the mask. on? I'm building this same model for my father (he bought one new in 67 and traded it in on a station wagon when I was born, so I'd like to give him one). Anyway, your build looks great.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt
I added the BMF after I painted the body.
I know some add the BMF, paint the body and remove the paint with a cotton stick and WD40. Haven't tried it myself though.

As mentioned in a previous post, I had problems with the flames. The paint chiped and bleed through a few places.
This morning I remasked areas that needed fixing. Got my AB, compressor, paint etc etc. I was set to go, but my

AB broke down. Never got as much as a single drop of paint from it. Never ever will I again buy an Aztec AB. I have painted 4 cars, 7 AFV's and a base coated a few figures, so obviously it must be worn down completely. I took it apart and a couple of the plastic parts inside had broken. Wow, what a quality product this is. Can't really get any further with the car, before I have bought a new AB.
Hmm, Iwata or Harder-Steenbeck?
Here is were the Chevelle is at the moment

Jesper,
It's lookin' good despite the setbacks! Bummer on the AB bro.
I finally broke down and bought an Iwata....haven't used it yet ( go figure
), but based on what I see a fair amount, they're really good ones. Not sure if you've checked these folks out, but they've got great prices (least here in the States): Dixie Art...worth a look-see.

The paint doesn't look to bad to me sorry to here about the AB, i have 3 Iwata's and i really like the way they work, so far my only trouble with them was when i dropped the air brush in my sink with the crown cap off and bent the needle. I have one for 5 years and the other 2 for about 3 years and never had a failure do to design or wear, but they are not cheap.
