Jeremy, I'm using Vallejo & K4 metallics (both acrylics) and although I have great results with their "normal" colors the metallics just don't like me. Possibly I'm not mixing them well enough, not thinning the Model Air enough, or trying to lay it on too thick (I find silver hard to see while painting, old age I guess!)
I've found using a brush with a larger needle/nozzle than my normal .2 works much better, and then coating with clear gloss where needed. Just ordered Alclad chrome and will see if that works with a bristle brush for smaller parts, otherwise I may just use Tamiya TS for wheels and such.
On another note, I'm really starting to dig this kit

Started dry fitting some of the parts and it's looking sharp, really sharp. Painting the clear cowl wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, did one with masking fluid and the other with tape, both came out decent. The cowl will need to be painted even if you use the one piece decal included in the kit as the back of the decal is white.

Hey James!! Yup, catching me lurking around the auto section...LOL!! Painting is looking pretty good from here, or at least from what these "old" eye can see!
I know it's been a couple weeks since the last post...maybe you have the Alclad by now?? I have a few of these and love the way they turn out! I have found the K4 and the Vallejo a bit tough to spray myself without thinning so much you need 1/2 a million coats. MM has some great results but you are back into the solvent range again...but then again Alclad is lacquer so I am sure you are prepared for that.
Looking forward to seeing more of your progress soon!!

Looks really nice. Beautiful finish.

Great details. Nice looking F1 car. I had the Tamiya 1/12 Lotus Type 78 JPS Mk. III way back in the mid 1980s. It was destrpyed by the cat.

Really good James. Too modern for my interest in racing cars, but looks like a great model.

I started stocking & trying out some Alclad and Gunze metallics and they look much better on my current project, so making headway in that department!

James: Very nice work my friend. Very nice looking kit. Not really into F1 building myself, but I love the work you have done here.

Hello, James, Hi, guys!
Some experience with Testors metallics here. They like best a single wet coat over dark primer.
The look of your F1 is just impressive, James. Warm Regards.

That's one fine looking Lotus. Congratulations on a job well done! I'm excited to try an Ebbro kit myself eventually.
