Introduction
Audi R8 V10 Plus is a new 1/87 display model by Herpa. The new Audi R8 V10 Plus differs from the R8 V10 by its additional rear spoiler and black exhaust tailpipe. The rear spoiler and the blades of the R8 are printed with a carbon design.

Audi R8®
Audi is known for their performance sedans and coupes which boast advanced electronic equipment to sense traction, torque, acceleration, and emissions. Their R8 is a 2-seat sports car with Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, with a big engine mounted in the middle. This powerful high-revving Audi 5.2 liter FSI® V10 generates 525 hp @ 8000 rpm;
    producing remarkable power and performance, capable of launching you from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.
It also incorporates the ingenious Audi magnetic ride;
    ...instantaneous driver control at the touch of a button. By utilizing an advanced magnetically charged fluid whose viscosity continuously adapts to driving dynamics and can be controlled electromagnetically, the driver can select from ‘Normal’ or ‘Sport’ modes to customize the ride and handling.

The car has another power choice: the 4.2 liter FSI® V8.

Audi R8 V10 Plus
This new 1/87-HO model joins 229 other Audi models from Herpa, including 22 R8 models. The model is fully assembled and secured in a clear plastic cradle in Herpa's box. These boxes don't look like much but are extremely effective in protecting the model; the shipping box this model was sent in was abused by the postal service(s), note the photo of it. Yet the model's box was not damaged.

I found no flaws in the casting or assembly. Some parts are molded in color. The tires only have tread detail on the edge. Windows are clear with no distortion so you can see the interior.

Slammin' the doors
Like Herpa's larger 1/43 offering of the R8 V10 Plus, the exterior features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels. Underside detail is simplified. Faint windshield wipers are molded in the black chrome on the windshield. Two exhaust ports peek out from the rear bumper.

Like the 1/43 model, individual clear lenses simulate the headlamps and tinted lenses simulate the tail lights. Unlike that model there is no separate rear view mirror inside the cabin, although separate side view mirrors are attached but without reflective lenses. Soft plastic tires encompass detailed rims. The rear airfoil blade is also a separately attached piece.

Inside is a black plastic interior featuring bucket seats, steering wheel, console, stick shift and dashboard. A good representation of the 5.2 liter FSI® V10 is very visible through the rear window. You can almost hear the rumble.

Paint and Finish
Herpa finishes are usually to a high standard and this model is no exception. The glassy finish on the smooth surface made the model challenging to photograph as the finish reflects so much light and background. This model is painted a mirror-smooth arablau/blade schwarz/ara blue/blade black.

Faux carbon design is printed on the blades and spoiler. The design does not show up as well under my lighting as it does on Herpa's web page, yet I can feel a texture. The designer rims are molded in bright silver. Chrome body trim is painted on, as is the Audi emblem and the car model. Herpa does not use decals.

Revvin’ up!
This modern sportscar model is an impressive miniature of the real thing. It looks great and has impressive detail. I appreciate the clear and tinted lenses for the lights. The finish is fantastic. It complements the larger 1/43 offering.

This is another exceptional model from Herpa for collectors, dioramaists, and modern model railroaders. I recommend it.
