Sorry Jim the kfs ones seem to be the ones I am after.I have looked for photo etch to replicate and cant seem to find any at my lhs.I am lucky here in edmonton though as unlike most places we have 4-5 very good shops.I have not done the online model ordering yet but it seems like thats the way to go.The orange turned out great and really suits that truck to a "t" by the way, shawn.

Nice link Jim...how do they take payment? Backyard shed is very fast for an aussie vendor{simply meaning the distance away}...my current dealings with federation models{sci-fi} is far less than stellar - ordered 11/20 and heard nothing. Sent 3 emails, the last one yesterday asking for some reply or I was going to paypal about it... low and behold I got a usps shipping confirmnation this morning from them. Seems only the US guys try that stuff....rather annoying!
I wish there was more in the way of pin striping a scroll work available.
Sorry, not trying to rob the thread.....

So, the last few days (weekends), I've been working on the interior bucket for my GMC Astro. Now that it's done, I figured I'd snap a few shots of it before I put it into the cab. Funny thing, even though this is a GMC; the steering wheel has the Chevrolet Bowtie on it.

Looking good Jim. You've picked out the dash details really nice.
I've never been a big fan of cabovers....having driven a couple....but seeing your exterior shot last month made me rethink building one. I snagged this same kit on ebay for $12.00 last week. Hope it turns out half as nice as your has so far.

Thanks, Hermon. It's getting there. I really want to have this wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. I think I'm going to replace the air horns with Auslowe round air hords, as the ones in the kit are pretty bad. Also, the wipers are way out of scale, so I'm replacing them with KFS wipers.

You got yours for $12! I'm jelous!

Sorry, check that. The kit I got was actually the Chevy Titan 90 COE. Almost the same thing but still 12 bucks.

Dude! You're killing me!!! A $12 Titan would be great for conversions. Do you know how many aftermarket cabs will fit on that frame?

Nope. Seriously, I have driven damn near every kind of truck (American) produced in the last 25 years but I've never built a model kit of one. Until somebody posted the SourKraut link I didn't even know there was any aftermarket stuff for semi trucks. Now that I've been looking around at everything the last few weeks I definitely will be building at least a couple this year.

Hi guys.

I started out building trucks with my dad as a young boy and I remember how HUGE they seemed then. My first experience with a truck actually occured before I was born. Dad drove long-haul for quite a while, and one night rolled an old 1418 Benz with a load of logs. My mother was in the cab with him, pregnant with me at the time !! Maybe that explains a few things, hey (just getting in first !!) ?

I've never been able to find a kit of a 1418 Benz, but I would love to build one up with a log jinker on the back.

Cheers, D

No, not yet. Only think I have to do now is the chrome trim & mount the cab. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do the tank straps. Tried a couple of different techniques, but nothing looked right. Maybe I'll go with white to match the frame.

Oh, and I have replacement air horns on order from Sourkraut. The kit ones just suck.

Jim, just got my Titan 90 in the mail today. You're right, the horns do suck and the exhaust stack ain't much better.

It's been a while since I built my astro so I've either blocked it out or dealt with them...what's the issue with the horns?!
Remember folks..it those chrome pieces in question have sink holes, big honkin sprue connections in obvious spots{don't they always?} or heavy seams, you can sand them down, prime, and coat with tamiya spray black and rechrome in alcladII chrome thru the AB{sorry jim, but you really need an AB dude!}. My needlenose pete's airhorn got drilled and filed to open up the front horn as I recall and I just redid all the cab running lights and door handles for the reo since big fat mold lines and 1 sink hole made them unbearable.

Sourkraut to the rescue! I used the KFS plain stacks on mine, and will be using the KFS wipers as well.

Hopefully Chris will get the horns to me soon. I'd really like to put this one to bed, if you know what I mean.

Your Titan, are you going to leave it a sleeper cab, or will you be cutting it down for a day cab?

Robert, I dunno yet. I've been toying around with the daycab idea. Looks like a simple cut and reglue process. I may put the Titan on the shelf for a while. I'd kinda like to build the International 4300 first. Had an idea of cutting the frame way down on that one, making it a single axle, and building a custom bed with a hydrolic 6 way hitch mobile home transport truck sort of like one I owned a few years ago. Looked similar to this.

Wouldn't be a lot of work really.

Anyway, as for the Titan, were you looking for some sleeper parts or something? And sorry for posting my truck ideas on your thread. I know it's bad form.....just wanted you guys opinion on the mobile home toter idea.

Oh, I wasn't talking models or parts. I need display space mostly. I've completed five trucks, and I'm already out of room. And I have three on the bench with one to be finished very soon.

What I could used is some GMC logos to dress up the mud flaps. I think the original issue Astro had them, but I haven't had much luck finding anything. Can't really put Kenworth logos on a GMC. That would be sacrilege! Might burst into flames, or something.

My mudflaps always said NAPA..........cause I ripped'em off every other day. Used to buy them by the dozen at the local NAPA for like $8.00 each.

Jim, can't help ya on the GMC logo's. My truck stash currently stands at 2. Could I enterest you in some Hemi decals? That'd double the value of anything you put it on.

I also had a minor set back on the Astro, I was adding the chrome trim stuff, and all the windows fell out!! Un-freeking-believable!!

Not a problem. Move the fuel tank to the back, throw some chainlink across the front, and enter it into the demolition derby group build.

Yeah, I know, that didn't help much.

The only thing I can think of is take some .005 sheet stock and cut out "GMC" very carefully and glue them on some blank flaps.....another route would be to find a sticker sheet of letters and either use the actual letters or the surounding sections to lay out on the mud flaps...paint a few coats on and remove the stickers for a slightly raised effect......that's all I got-

I've seen said sticker/letters at hobby lobby. Always had an idea that they, given the correct size needed, could be useful for mugflap lettering.........somebody try it and let us know!......either paint over the stickers for a small amount of raised lettering{or double stack for alittle more height} or use the surrounding sticker sheet to spray paint onto as a mask application. 6 of one half dozen of the other I guess-
