Here are a couple of WIP photos of my 1976 GMC Astro/95. I've got a long way to go, but I'm pleased with the progress so far. The only changes to the kit are a steerable front axle, replaced the spring suspension with the air ride suspension from the GMC General, & I swapped out the spoke wheels for the General's disks.

Hope you like it!

Nice upgrades on the kit. What are the plans for the finish on the tires? They look really glossy, is it going to be off the showroom floor new?

Thanks, guys.

Jasper, it's the AMT 1/25 scale kit.

Scott, I'll probably leave the tires the way they are. I've never really done any weathering. Any suggestions?

One idea to dull the tires is to give them a quick light rub with something quite fine like steel wool. I would want to just take down the shine just a touch. You can also add a light coat of pastels in a dusty/tan color at the end.

I actually managed to get some work done on the Astro today (in between building four raised beds for vegetable gardens, painting a bathroom ceiling, taking care of the kids, and a trip to the hardware store & bank). The frame is painted Krylon semi-gloss white & the engine Detroit Diesel Alpine Green. I'm hoping to post some photos soon.

Same here by the way: domestics are soaking up time... There must be a law against it!

...yeah..just do it! ...you saw the pics of the astro didn't ya? Scuffing has been known to work, but I like a black/grey flat coat followed by a light grey wash in the treads...just go look at your car/pick up{or whatever you got} that's not recently cleaned. Notice the difference in the side walls to the surface that runs on the pavement. Run over/in some mud or gravel lately...look at the coloring and pattern on your tires...then find paints to match that.

...working in the factory, while looking out the back dock, at the frequnet truck traffic that goes, by I'm seeing a trend lately of mix and match...alot of aluminum discs up front with two holes or five holes on the rear{s}...even mix and match on the rears too. This isn't just the privateer guys, it's the trucking companies too.
Obviously some kind of merger or something lately...lots of UPS trucks with "overnite" trailers behind them...or vise versa. That and there's alot of "bomber" traffic here with the gravel hill down the road and Unilock pavers just down the ways.

Bob,

You can post pics of your trucks here, or you can start another thread. If you submitting any of these trucks for the campaign make sure you put the campaign in the thread title, and don't forget to put a couple of pics in the campaign folder on Kit Maker.

Thanks for the weathering tips. I think I'll give some of them a try.

Alright, I'll do that with the pics...as for the "clear flat over tires" thing...imho it just doesn't get them flat enough...still looks semi gloss to me, so I use flat black/greyish brown to give them that "old" look. Try either/any way and go with what you like.......

I put the pete needlenose up and set it as a campaign pic{s}...but I don't see it on the campaign page. Am I looking in the wrong spot? DAF or Astro next...where's a coin?!

"A" comes before "D"...

With the Campaign winding down next week, I figured I'd get some more WIP photos posted of the Astro. After squandering away most of May, and all of June & July; I managed to get the frame completed! The stacks are from KFS, and were easier to work with that I figured (yes, I know, they're not totally straight). Next up is the interior & the cab.

Enjoy!
