Remember Mad Max 2 (or Road Warrior) and opening chase with that menacing looking black Ford Landau:

Well, it's been two decades (and couple years more) since I last build car model, and as I don't have any fear and my armor models aren't going anywhere I decided to have a go with this beast. Using Aoshima Interceptor as base, I try to recreate this as close as possible to "real" thing.
There is obviously some difficulties, starting with bumpers. Front '57 Buick, rear '59 Pontiac Bonneville(?), and as it happens there's no injection kits available Front bumber however is possible to make from '57 Chevy bumper, or at least close enough. I don't know what I'm going to use as rear though...
Also going to source couple of side draft Dellortos somewhere, Webers do nicely also so if anyone know suitable donor kit please share (1/24-1/25 scale).
Here some bodywork already done, hood is from amt police car:

Currently working with front bumper, wasn't too happy how it turned out first time so I have to modify it bit more. Will post pics as soon as it starts to look like it's something

Here's little kitbash, Tamiya Marder wheel turned into hub cap for rear wheel:

I found '59 Pontiac rear bumper from ebay, and while I'm scratch building front I'm still loking to find ready (and accurate) part.

Rear bumper deal at Ebay went sour, so I still need that '59 Pontiac Bonneville part. So if anyone got one to spare, please let me know and we work something out.

Rear light assembly, bit rough on places but after it's weathered and dusted I think it will be just fine..

Thanks guys. Finally got my hands on rear bumper, it has some damage (probably glue) but beggars can't be choosers. Quick chrome removal and some dremel work and I was ready to test fit, bumper seems to be in 1/25 as it doesn't need to be narrowed. Which is fine by me, no need for another cutting...

Slight break from car, I decided to start on driver figure. This is combination of Tamiya and Fujimi, and I need to reposition the body so that he looks over his left shoulder. Figures are not my strongest area, but luckily this guy doesn't show much skin
From movie:

And here's progress so far:

Things are bit easier as construction of car's interior is such that sides are separate, so I can see clearly how driver should be.

Very neat work so far Tomi. Great subject matter as well, I still see a few of these on the road here.

Looking forward to more progress.

Cheers, D

Thanks. There's still two major components to build, sipe pipes and twin carb/turbo setup on the hood. After that I'm planning on finishing body. As this bit curbside model, I won't paying too much attention to chassis detail and there isn't going to be engine either (well, you couldn't open the hood anyway with all that turbo nonsense on a way...).

Cool. I was wondering what you were going to use for the skull.

Side note.....The Road Warrior is on right now and I am watching it. My all time favorite movie.

Mad Max: Fury Road is in theaters starting today. Can't wait to see it....even if Mel Gibson isn't in it.

You project is looking great.

My first attempt with the skull was plastic head, but I found out that resin has better qualities when carving such a tiny details. Of course I was lucky that resin in question was good quality, probably TANK figures.

Going to see Fury Road this saturday, I'm pretty hyped about all the great reviews

Ok, test time. Car has vinyl roof and instead of painting it I decided to use masking tape technique, and as first timer it's always best to do a test run. Using wide Tamiya masking tape and it lays down nicely, only tricky spot on the rear window upper corner so have to watch that out when laying final roof.

Go see Mad Max: Fury Road, it's insane!

I plan on it. But I am going to wait a week or two so that it isn't as crowded and noisy. I hate going to the theater because people make me mad. Haven't been to a movie theater in about 12 years or so. However I will make an exception for this movie.
