Hey, I found one of those Jeff Gordon NASCAR Monte Carlos.

Looks like it missed turn 3 somewhere. All of the parts seem to be there.

Richard, that is an awesome classic racer, and from what I've seen a very nice kit to put together as well.
BTW, when you get a chance can you please get working on a submission for the Group Build so we can get things rolling there?
Mike and Mark, you guys are joining Gabriel making it 3 of the NASCAR Monte Carlo kits!
Mike, I worked for 10 years managing hardware and power tool supply businesses here in Melbourne, it's a great line to be in, and we sponsored a Ford touring car back then driven by Mark Larkham.

Cheers, D

That's a very cool looking unit Darrell, I look forward to watching it come together. The 1:1 engine bay looks like it might be easy to replicate in the kit, not too busy like most of the modern vehicles.
Does the kit come with a race option for markings, or are there after-market options?
Cheers, D

Damian It comes stock and some parts to make it a cafe racer, (roll hoop and two half moon windscreens) Looking for Minilite style rims.

No problems Mark, I fully expect most of the interested parties to change their minds 2 or 3 times between now and the start date. I have once already, it just adds to the interest and anticipation of the whole deal!

Mike, I worked for 10 years managing hardware and power tool supply businesses here in Melbourne, it's a great line to be in, and we sponsored a Ford touring car back then driven by Mark Larkham.
Damian, I've had three "real" jobs since I was 17: Army for 20 years, higher education, and retail. I've worked for three retailers since I've been out - Sears, Lowes, and Home Depot. I hated the stupid politics of higher ed, being salaried management in retail and having one's hands tied trying to get rid of lazy employees, and now? Just a peon in hardware and I freakin' LOVE it! Go to work, take care of my customers and department, and not worry "dog and pony" shows. Regional Managers coming in? Bah, no worries on my part - make sure our ducks are in a row and, well, ignore them.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this build. I may see about a place at work to display it.

The Minilites arrived today. I am ready to start and finish the build. I have started a few kits but not finished any. Hopefully I will finish this build as it is one of my dream cars.

Bump/motivation/inspiration time once again, and another kit from my stash.

And the alternative markings that I was planning to do.

Doing some digging, I am now wondering if Revell got this one wrong (shock, horror!!). The Guardsman Blue #11 markings are described on the box and in the instructions as being those of Harold "Hal" Keck from the ARRC November 1965 race at Daytona, but from what I can find he actually raced a Shelby Daytona Coupe and not a Cobra. I would be really happy if anybody could find reference to this #11 car, otherwise it might just be Guardsman Blue with white stripes and no racing livery.
Cheers, D

Hi folks.
With the Blue Oval Group Build just around the corner, it's time to get the discussion going around the next Automodeler Group Build. Starting on April 1, 2020 we will be trying to scale down our need for speed and build a race themed vehicle.
The rules are up for discussion but as per the "Group Build Themes" thread, in order to maximise the participation I believe that we should be all-inclusive and allow open and closed wheel cars, trucks and bikes, from any genre of organised race or time trial, from circuit tracks, straight strips, rally and off-road, hard surface, dirt, grass, sand, dust and mud !!
Formula cars, NASCARS, stock cars, funny cars, gassers, rails, rally cars, superbikes, dirt bikes, super trucks, enduro off-road vehicles, pretty much anything with wheels that needs to go from A to B faster than the other guy
If anybody would like to put their hand up to act as Group Build Leader, you will as always get the full support of the admin staff here along the way as required.
So let the discussion begin.
I will maintain an updated list of interested parties and prospective builds here throughout the lead-up period.
Aussiereg (Damian) - '55 Chev Pro Sportsman (Revell)
Joel_W (Joel) - TBA (too many options to narrow it down just yet!)
Dixon66 (David) - TBA

md72 (Mark) - Chev Monte Carlo NASCAR (Jeff Gordon)
Szmann (Gabriel) - Chev Monte Carlo NASCAR (Tony Stewart)

bluebell914 (Patrick) - Ferrari P4 or 512S
2002hummer (Darrell) - Lotus Super Seven (Tamiya)

Cheers, D
P.S. I might build an old Chevy, just for something different

Has anyone set up a campaign page yet? On the campaign section page nothing shows up yet.

While you are cogitating over your builds for this one, please keep thinking about a ribbon as well.
This is the last one I suggested, maybe the "2020" is a bit small?

Just signed up for the Group Build. I must be insane! Anyway, I am planning on doing the Revell 1957 Ford Sedan Gasser:
The first rule of the campaign is that "all entries must have a racing number somewhere on the body". As you can see from the photo, the gasser doesn't have a racing number. Does this disqualify this car from the build?

Good choice, a great era! Also a good question. We might need to amend rule 1 to allow vehicles that are obviously dedicated racers, not just daily drivers on a weekend adventure! Things like the custom gas tank and racing sponsorships should satisfy the qualifications IMHO.

That thought crossed my mind while working on the submission.
For drag racing bracket cars a ET time marked on side windows free hand would work.
Damian please amend the rules.
