Garage Queens 2020 Group Build Enlist HERE

Hi team Automodeler!

Getting in early to make sure I don't forget to do this over the pending holiday period, this will be the official thread for the Garage Queens 2020 Group Build.

I think the following Rules and Regs pretty much cover it:
1. Kit must have been started.
2. Any scale, any type from any of AutoModeler's sections.
3. Must post a starting picture to the Group Build thread.
4. Must post a completed picture in the Group Build thread.

Mark (md72) has generously volunteered to take on the Leader role this year, and once the proposal is submitted and approved I will post a link at the top of this post.

I will also maintain a running progress report in this post showing the "State of Play" for the registered builds.

Let's get those old cars, trucks, bikes, tractors, whatever wheely-things you might have started and stashed away from years gone by, dust them off, tidy them up, and get them on the display shelf where they belong.

This is also a great opportunity to try out some new products or techniques that you might not want to throw at a brand new kit.

I'm really looking forward to watching what kits are put forward, and how they turn out at the end of proceedings.

I was digging around looking for some after market items that I have hidden away (still MIA) and found this little gem. I started this one in the very first Chev vs Hemi Group Build back in March 2011, and I remember being very gung-ho with enlisting in Aeroscale Campaigns back then, so this was as far as I got.








These photos were taken in October 2011.

This will be my build here, with a possible follow-up if time permits, to be revealed later.

With your current build speed, you could finish this one in the "Garage queens 2019 group build"

Thanks for getting next year's Garage GB pointed in the right direction. And Thanks Mark (md72) for stepping up and taking on the Leaders roll. It's greatly appreciated.

If I was still an airplane modeler, I'd have plenty of shelf Queens to pick from, but since I've made the move to CARS, I've finished all but one model, and that one unfortunately has taken a one way trip to the recycling center which I now regret.

I guess I'm in for the AMT 289 slab side Cobra that started earlier this year for the 2020, or the brush fire HMMWV that I said I was going to finish this year too.

Here's my Queen and Revell 1/24 '57 Chevy Bel Air. It's a snap-tite, so it's simplified, all the under body details are molded in. There really isn't a suspension, you just load the steel axles through a low or high hole to set the stance. It has modern tires, nothing period correct.

It's a charity shop find, most of the parts are still there but the stickers (not decals) are missing.

I submitted the proposal. When it gets to the ribbon I's like to go with the 2019 truck just change the year to 2020 and change the truck color to red.

Well, that was easy, (helps to have low friends in high places). Now I need to figure out the ribbon editing and how to insert a table.

Only a few days until this Group Build gets going, with a 12 month run time on kits already started I hope we can see a few builds out of the dust-covered old storage sheds and onto the shiny showroom floor!

I blew the dust off the box on the '71 Hemi Cuda and opened up the box.



I'm further along than I remembered and this really won't take too much work to finish off, so I rummaged around and found a couple more old friends that are well along the assembly line. These 2 were started back in January 2015, so I'm going to make 2020 the "Year of the Ancient Garage Queen" and get all 3 of these out of the garage and into the showroom!

Damian: With the speed you've cranked out models, in recent month's, bringing these beauties across the finish line, well before the end of 2020, shouldn't be a problem.

I just love the looks of Cuda's even though they're not built by Ford. And as for the 1967 GTO, I had for a very brief time a 1966 LeMans, it's baby brother. Sold my half to my brother, as we jointly owned it, and bought my beloved 1967 MGB. The rest is history.

The 66-67 LeMans/GTO's look amazing. The front, with the headlights on top of each other is one of the best looking fronts, of the era. A shame the MPC kit has inmolded headlights.

Getting stuck in to the Cuda, the standard MS1500/MLT primer mix followed up with SMS Marigold Orange.

The Cuda sure is in good company.

Details details details. Tamiya Black Panel Line Wash applied over several sessions to build up a solid cover in the vents, and very slowly and carefully to darken the door and boot joins.





A little more to add to the front grille vents yet.

The bonnet has a twist in it that lifts one corner out of alignment by about 1-2mm, thinking about taping 2 corners down over a curved object and leaving it for a couple of days to see if it stays straight.

You really nailed those panel lines and grills. The doors look like they are really separate from the body. Just gotta love the Black Tamiya panel line wash.
