Now there's a great idea for a diorama. Nice innovation with the radiators, but by the looks I doubt the cars would last long enough to overheat anyway !!

Thanks for posting the pic, I'm sure there's some ideas in there for my build,

Cheers, D

Haven't seen any other pics of radiators on the roof. Think that was a passing idea. I found an awesome forum for derby drivers with tons of pictures as well as tips on building a derby car.

Front wheel drive cars are no good.

Chains aren't great either. Most everyone uses #9 wire (maybe bailing wire from the looks of it).

Square bar is used alot to reinforce various areas of the car (along the rear axle, instead of the front bumper, and for the cage).

#9 wire for the hood:

Nice pic's John. As for chain, I get it at the local craft store for like 99 cents for 3 feet. They have several different sizes and all it takes to make them look realistic is a bit of weathering.

Hey,
Concluded family business, and I'm back.Long trips lead to some curious conversations with spouses.I was telling her about the Ford/Chevy/Mopar rivalry here(ie Demo Derby), so she challenges me to build one of each(me and my big mouth!!!).
Well the good news is if I do it,she will pay for my room at AmpsEast in Oct.The bad news is if I don't I have to put up an equal amount towards her Elvis cruise(you don't even want to know about that!)Suffice to say I don't do ships/cruises.
Anyway, the cruise is in July.So I got about 8 wks to do three models.Oh,did I say she is a car nut? So they have to be full on detailed, interior stripped, roll cage, paint & lettered(by hand)etc, etc, etc as they are at our local demo derbies.
So I gotta get it in gear and get in the game.I was having a little modeler's block, but I think this is a cure($$$).
I'm hoping to take a few construction shots as well as completed ones.
Enough talk,off to work!

I'll check on the chain. Gotta get some more glue anyway

I might be related to you guys also. I'm pretty suspect about some of my relatives not even making it to the branch off time period either.

You two are brothers or something...aren't ya?!

Yep, long lost identical twins separated at birth. I was raised by a tribe of hardened warriors (hence the Chev affinity), and Hermon was raised by a band of travelling ballerinas (pink lace . . . no need to explain there).

The first one looks cool Hermon and should show up well as a ribbon. I'm nominating you for official Automodeler ribbon maker
Email the ribbon to me when you decide which one and I'll try and get it into the group build thingamajig.

I forgot all about this one, I better go find something to build......

I'm not the Automodeler official anything.
We're going with the first one. I'll email it to you in a bit James.

Hermon

ps: James, I just noticed that the end date for this group build is 2012. Any chance you could change that to 2011?

I'll start a new thread on Aug 1st. Should it be in the garage forum (here) or in the car forum?
