Thanks for the motivation to post more progress.

step three, Wheels

The stock parts from the box. Rims and rotors, putty and prep for primer

first I sprayed it black then masked it off to spray the green. Ended up being way to hard to get around the compound shapes for the desired pattern that I wanted. So I went back and sprayed it green then hand brush the black in

You might notice the rim without the tire. It has scratches around the front face.
I painted right over the chrome without stripping it off first.
Then dropped it on the concrete outside when I was going to take these pics.

I hate when that happens...I was painting once and knocked the jig off as I was cleaning the air brush....nothing ruins the day faster!.........
Let it dry completely and wet sand, then retouch it and you'll be ok.{the paint will...your pride may not}
-I say I have two kids- one son & one daughter...my wife says she has three- one son ,one daughter and one husband.
...and don't tell yourself you can't do it....it'll just take longer then

KSO, it's all good.....looks like a "squid" (swabbie) just curbed it is all. Nothing out of the ordinary.
It will be real interesting to see "where" the paint goes with this. Like your undercarriage a lot. I guess the Navy-theme will work considering the rims.

One thing I always found funny about these cars were the brakes. They normally have a 22" anywhere to a 30" rim, but with stock size rotors, calipers and hardware lol.

Very true. This rotor I'm using for this, scales out to be about 14" diameter, but still looks goofy. I've seen pictures on line with giant discs the same diameter as the rim installed behind the rim to mask this engineering "tell".
The kit includes these discs too.

Thanks, Bob. You're right, the paint dried but my pride is still curing...
OH, very funny, in fact hilarious!
Yes, it's a Navy theme, Seabees to be exact.
The paint on the body has not been determined yet. I wanted the Seabee logo on the doors and spare tire cover but can't solve the yellow decal on a dark color background yet.
Has anyone ever laminated a decal to increase color intensity and succeeded?

I dunno KSO....for the floor mats, it would have been nice to see some of those "Catch all your mud and water" type....you know; raised outer ribs....intricate design in the center....nice "spicy" heel pad.....that kind.

Very good points gentlemen. But this is a ride for Seabees. Practical, resourceful, and to the point
TFG, I know exactly what you mean...
Steve, there is a surprise for the rear view though

Built the blackout light system today. All of the parts are from the spare parts box.

something in 1/72 scale. These are for the switch housing

also from something in 1/72 scale. These are for the switches

The blackout light on the left is from the Custom Caddy kit. The alternator and the sprue shape in the dotted line was shaped to the shroud part.

Here is the assembly before primer. The switches will be mounted to the dash, just left of the steering wheel.

It just looks like real leather.
That car is going to be an eycatcher when it's finished.
Keep on going KSO

This kit did not include a gear shift arm on the right side of the steering column. One had to be made.

if you notice on step 5, a little stub is barely pictured but does not exist
The spare parts box provided the correct size part and just needed an end knob.
It's something from a 1/72 kit from the past

Microscale thin red putty shaped the knob on the end

primed and painted then installed

Step 7 includes the front chrome bumper and grille

There are some flaws that need attention that some sanding and putty solved

I followed the instructions and didn't remove the pins which position the three parts together. I was also watching TV during this assembly period. As you can see in the picture, the grille is not straight and is already glued in place.

I partially popped the grille out from behind and repositioned it straight with a toothpick as a spacer. Then re-glued from behind with CA.
I'll post results later
