Less than a week to go, and we are still seeing some great work going on!

Mark, I'm loving the rust and weathering on your '51. The engine bay especially came up deliciously damaged!

David, your Gen 1 Bronco turned out beautifully. I'm really looking forward to the next set of images.

Richard, neat work on the wheel set, the alloy rims look great!

Cool little Bronco there David.

Meanwhile, I continue to battle with my Ford GT.....

Masking is one of my least favourite parts of modelling. And a subject like this with all its complex shapes and hard to reach areas is particularly unenjoyable. It took me 4 sessions at the bench to get this thing fully masked up. Here she is after part 3.

Even as I was masking it, I was thinking "this is going to go wrong, there's going to be overspray...."

But at first glance, it's not to bad, going to need a couple of little touch ups, but I can cope with a little light sanding and a dab of paint.

But upon closer inspection there's couple of problem areas.

First up this tunnel section which was hard to mask and hard to spray - I missed a strip of it and let this happen
I will probable scrape/sand the worst of it off, then put a strip of white decal over it. It's in one of the least observable parts of the kit, so I can probly get away with it there

Then on the front, just a lack of care and attention, overspraying blue over the red Going to have to mask and spray these bits again....

So I was hoping to move onto detail painting and decals tonight, but it would appear not.

Neil,
You did an excellent masking job as this has to be one of the hardest paint schemes I've ever seen. When I do tackle this car it will be in the all White/Motorcraft markings for sure, or at least one of the single base colors and the rest with decals.

Clean up can also be done with just a damp Qtip with thinner and light, easy rubbing. Final touch up with decals seems like an excellent method to solve some really hard to reach areas, and should look nearly perfect when done.

To echo what Joel said you did a great job on masking those extremely complex markings on an even more complex body shape.

Looking forward to seeing more.

And, with that, I've got the final pictures. I couldn't find my diffuser in the basement so I made do with a white grocery bag.

David,
Your pictures are absolutely perfect. I'd say that your technique is rock solid and top shelf. I've been too lazy for a long time to actually get out my difusers, but I should really go the extra mile when I finally finish my Porsche 935 K3.

Neil, the paint looks good, a bit of remask and respray will get you right on top! It might be worth decanting a bit of the Zero white and letting it flash off for a minute or two, then brush painting to touch up in that tunnel area.

David, superb photos mate, great job!

Richard, neat work on the BMF and great paint finish! Almost time to put your Group Build Leader hat on!

Cheers, D

Richard,
Now that's one outstanding paint job. The clear gloss looks tremendous.

Gravity is my #1 paint company followed by Zero for body paints.

Joel, thanks for the tips - I used a microbrush dipped in Zero thinners to wipe away the worst of the overspray, and then touched up with a dab of paint. It's not perfect, but it looks wayyyy better, and you'd have to actually go looking to spot the repair.

My motorsports loving son is impressed with it though, he said the paintjob was "perfect" I'll get him to help with the decalling this weekend.

Thanks Joel

Here is the last pic I will post before completion. Decalling is about 3/4 done. The kit decals have gone down really well and with a coat of micro set the carrier film has almost disappeared, fantastic.

Good news and bad news elsewhere..... the little red bits either side of the nose grille that caused me so many problems with masking and then overspray......well, halfway through decalling I suddenly realised that Revell very kindly supply them as decals. I didn't know whether to or , but as my son was with me, I had to settle for . He was very sympathetic to my plight however

So tomorrow is finishing decals, then a lacquer coat and then squeezing it all together without damaging the paintwork. The clear parts will be the final challenge. But barring last minute disasters, she should be done just before the chequered flag!

I am reminded of the old adage about the 24 hours of Le Mans - In order to finish first, first you must finish! See you Tuesday!
