Welcome enlistees to our Blue Oval-Ford Motor Co. Group Build. Both Damian and I are really looking forward to following all of your builds from start to completion. So please post often along your build journey, and the more pictures, the better.

We've opened the thread up one day early to accommodate our fellow members who are nearly a full day ahead of us, but anyone can now post, and of course start their build.

Joel

Great Southern Land checking in, 12:10 AM October 01, I am really excited to follow all of the builds that are lined up for this Group Build.

Starting shot for my build

This is the third kit in my When I'm 64 project, and will be a restored street rod version. Still undecided on the colour scheme, but I have a couple of ideas.

Best of luck to everybody with their respective builds, as Joel said, post plenty of progress along the way, enjoy your build, and support the others along the way.

Cheers, D

Nice one Joel and Damian

I'm really looking forward to starting my little 1940 Coupe. I'll wait until tomorrow evening and then take my starting photo to show I put all the pieces back in the box after doing the review.

My entry will probably stutter along in fits and starts as I'll also be working on some aircraft review-builds through the period of the GB. The Ford will be a great project to have running as something totally different to turn to.

Good luck to everyone taking part - this should be a real blast!

All the best

Rowan,
I'm going to follow every post and step and try my best to keep you focused on your little Coupe build.

I had posted earlier that since the thread is up for our Australian & New Zealand friends, everyone, anywhere can get a 1 day jump start.

I am invoking the unwritten rule where you can start a build in the time zone of the country you were born in!
Born in England where it is 3,25am!

Here is my box photo:-

Gotta love those unwritten rules Richard, they cover just about any contingency

Best of luck with your build mate!

OK guys, here's my start picture. The model was purchased 2nd hand so the box was opened, some parts were removed from the sprue trees, but all of them seem to be there. The body was really badly scratched up, so I had previously sanded & polished both sections out just to make sure that I wasn't heading down a dead end street.

My start photo. All the resin and 3D printed items are from Fireball Modelworks except for the Jerry can that I found in the bottom of a spare parts box. I think I got it from Shapeways years ago (couldn't find it again when I went searching last month either).

Michael,
The weekend is right around the corner, and you'll be right in the thick of the GB sooner then later.

Great to see the kits hitting the bench already, and some awesome subject matter as well.

David, your small mountain of resin there looks challenging, I'm very keen to see how that comes together!

I hit the kit last night and started on the cleanup and test fitting of the major parts to see what depth of trouble I've got myself into, and I wasn't wrong. I'm about neck deep

First up was the fender/floor section. Check out those attachment points! The sprue wasn't letting this part escape easily.

Next up was the body parts. The fit of the top and bottom halves here is a challenge for anybody building this kit.
The LHS doesn't look too bad. The small section between the vertical join and the door line will need a little bit of sanding to bring it in to line.

The upper body is nicely recessed in relation to the lower body.

The RHS is another story altogether. It looks like the moulds weren't lined up when they cast this one! The upper body contour actually sits OUTSIDE the lower body along the length all the way back to the mould line beyond the high point of the rear wheel arch. This is going to be a whole bunch of fun to fix

I will need to remove almost 1mm of material to whip this into shape, might be Dremel o'clock

I hope none of you face the same problems with your builds (unless you are a masochist and enjoy the challenge like me!)

Cheers, D

C'mon Damian, panel beating should be your thing with all these AMT kits you build
I am sure you'll find a solution.

D,
Egads!! you've really got some major alignment work ahead of you. But you've been doing this sort of work over the last several models, so I'm expecting the end result to be your usual perfection.

As for my day one efforts, I'm starting with priming the two piece shell, and started to fill in the dozen's of long sink marks in the bottom of the chassis pan from the casting of the frame rails on the top end. Post and pics to follow later today.

Joel, is that Robert Lappalainen's Mustang? He organised few DTM/ITCC and sports car races in Helsinki after his racing career.

Here's my startup picture:

I'll try to get started quite soon.

Pasi
Yes, it's Robert Lappalainen's Roush Trans Am ride. I bought AM decals for this car as well as the Folger's sponsored car, which is the car that I'm going to be doing.

Looking forward to your Ford GT build.
