Save the bus idea Bob. We could do custom van / touring bus kinda thing some time in the future. It'd be different at least.
I think I'm also gonna rethink my build. Jim sent me the directions and a set of springs to convert my Chevy Titan to a day cab so I'm thinking about doing that. Got an idea to do a yardbird for my local ABF dispatch warehouse. It's actually not ABF anymore but that's what I want to stick with. Lot of memories of those old green and yellow bullfrogs rolling down the road. Still gonna need someone to do some decals for me though if anyone is interested.

Harmon,
Check with Jerry over at
Model Truckin. He might be able to help you, but I don't know what his fee is to create new decals. I'd like a set of ABF decals for a Ford HDT950. Yeah, I know, old school!

Yeha, I want to build the bus someday, but right now it really doesn't fit the theme. Oh well, it'll save me some grief by putting it off again.
A transfer truck is another one I'd like to build someday{yeah, there's ALOT of things I want to build someday}....try one out for size Hermon. A simple box cab outta flat sheet stock...

[quote Also gonna need some custom decals for the magnetic signs on the doors if any of you guys would be willing. I plan to build my old truck if I can find a decent reference pic.

What exactly did you want to custom do in the way of a decal? Just lettering or what? Don't loose track of the MS Office you probably have on your puter there...you can toss up scale grids and import graffics as well as lettering....save and print out on paper to see how it looks, then grab some decal paper for the finished product. I did it once so far and it worked out great, but that was just lettering for a starship.

I'll probably never get the chance Bob. After my little incident tonight with BMF and decals, I've decided to start drinking heavily again. Shame too.....I was at the top of my game there for a while.

Hmmm, remember my friend, the modeller's creed..if at 1st you don't suceed, shelve it till you do or simply drop back and punt...and try again.

At the rate I'm going, I'll have to build some more shelves. I'm in one of those ruts where everything I touch turns to..............doo doo.
Yeah, I've been wanting to try my own decals for a while now. I may just do it for this truck. After looking at several pic's of the old ABF trucks, I think I may just do a ficticious truck with a better paint scheme. I picked up a can of TS metallic black, and some Testors Lime Ice last weekend and I hate to just leave them sitting on the shelf.

Either way Hermon, you will carry on building. Like all of us, it's in your blood brother !!

I'm afraid you're right D. It is in my blood, and my credit card is suffering for it.
Hey D, did you ever check out that link I sent ya for the Mercedes Benz truck? I also found some 1/35 scale Bedfords that look like they could be modified to fit your taste? Would be good to see somethin out of the ordinary for this build.

Sorry Hermon, I though I had got back to you on this but obviously my Isopropyl-muddled mind has gone even further down the path to . . . what was I saying ?
Yeah, I checked the link (thanks for taking the time to check it out), but I must look a lot younger than I am !! I'm looking for the OLD OLD OLD long-nose 1418

I've never seen one, but you never know.

Hey Bob, any particular reason you chose to start the truck group build on a big Communist holiday? Hmmm..........out with it man!
Maybe there's another rule to be added, all builds have to be painted Red

There ya go...any good excuse will do.
We have roughly 2 months to aquire kit{s} and added bits and rough out a build plan folks.
I plan on one of my resin cabs...a classic late '60s Mack H-67 on top of either a spares cruiseliner chassis or one of the spares R-685 chassis{ebay finds}....to single drive or dual drive? - Hmmmmm.......
I'm trying to locate literature or decent pics to figure air intake routing.
When she's finished out comes the B-61 Mack Wrecker to be finished{I hope} and then I'd toss in the XT if time permits.......we do have a year ya know.

all,
A quick question for the intrepid Group Build leader, or any members opinion.
In my usual quest for the weird and wacky I came across a vehicle (was actually seaching for Holt model 75 info) and immediately thought

early Ice Road Truckers, so my question is - would the likes of this type of vehicle fall within the bounds of the GB

.

It 'hauls a load' and operates on 'roads' (albeit ice) - or am I pushing the limits

.
For the curious - its a Lombard Steam Log Hauler (early 1900's).

Hmmmmmmmmm...........being "steam" makes it a reach. Nice piece though.
I tell what....unfinished truck projects would fit the bill here. Got any of those sir?

Bob,
Cheer's for the reply - thought I may be pushing the limits there

,
might have to crawl back into the cave and have a rethink as the other potential build is steam driven as well
- Fowler Road locomotive
no biggie as there are heaps more 'oddballs' out there to consider.
No unfinished projects here - recently had a vicious clean-out and sold/gave away or disposed of all the truck modelling stuff, so am starting completely fresh.
Must toddle off and see if I can find those plans for the Mechanical Horse

Roger.

Bob, I'm gonna stick with my Chevy Titan and cut it down into a daycab, single axle. Less scratchbuilding then my modular home hauler, plus, I want to try out those directions that Jim sent me.

Hey Jim, I've looked all over for a copy of that book you sent me the scans from. Any ideas where I could get my own copy?

Hermon,
"Building Model Trucks" by Phil Jensen has been out of print for several years (like 20). Your best be will probably be eBay or Amazon. Expect to pay big bucks! But then again, you might get lucky.
