The attention to detail you put in your builds always amazes me Joe. That interior is friggin' awsome man. Something tells me this one will be worth the wait.

Weekend update...
A little seat work, added stretched sprue for the seat cover seams and the mounting bracket.

Drive shaft or what we call it when we didn’t want to sit on it when we were younger…”the hump”

I decided on painting the car in lime green, paint used was Tamiyas X-15 Light Green and the interior is Tamiyas XF-19 Sky Gray and Flat Black. After the paint dries a day I’ll finish up any detail work and finish it up. Oh yeah…the hood is flat black and the drivers door will be painted a hugger orange.

Yes it came today. I hope to get started on it tomorrow. I got the Johnny Lighting 55 Nomad by AMT. This should make a strong contender

A strong contender

I say a strong winner, those years they didn't skimp on the steel or it's thickness AND there wasn't if any plastic. Great choice and looking forward to your progress photos.

I should have mine finished by tonight, just finished adding decals and a light clear coat. All thats left is the engine, wheels and bumpers. Will post pics tomorrow.

Really looking forward to seeing yours completed. After checking out the 55 Nomad I don't have the heart to cut it up, so I will be using the AMT 1970 SS Chevelle instead and building the Nomad as a Pickup and pull the Chevelle on a trailer.

oh, mother is in it. Ok, I'm out.

Great detail work, mother. Are you going to 'weld' a box around the valve stems too? That is if it's within the rules of this DD circuit...

OK I got started on my entry last night. I will be building the 454 Chevelle as the bang um up car and the 55 Nomad as a pickup which will tow the bang up.

Great start Dave, love your idea of cutting up the interior pan. Have you picked out a car color or any type of crazy pattern.

This is the front of the 70 with the hood cut out and the chains ready to bolt the hood down and keep the bumper up.

Interior tub mocked up. Need to paint before final assembly.

Gas tank removed and the fuel cell installed.

All glass must be removed in a derby car, but you are allowed to use chain link fencing to protect the driver.

Doors have plates welded and are chained for safety.

A little damage on the junk car build

These are the kits that I will be building and converting. I got them from a very special friend and Brother.

Thanks Joe. I cut up the kit pan because I ran out of all my plastic stock. But I think that it will be OK.

As far as the color goes I am not really sure. The interior will be gull grey and black. For the exterior I am not sure yet. Any suggestions

How is yours coming. Have you got the graphics in place yet? I am thinking that I will have lightning all over it. Sort of like Lightning Express(as in white lightning kind that is)

Ok I'm calling this one finished, well 99.999%. For some reason I can not find my modeling chain. I'm going to have do some digging. Once I do find it I'll add it on and post it.

Ok the paint, Tamiya's X-15 light green, once dried a wet sanding using 1500 grit paper. When it dried I brushed on a coat of Future Floor Wax. The decals are just some left overs.

It was a fun build and a great time, thanks for the pace of change.

Joe

That's superb Joe, lovely work. I'm stunned at how quickly some of you guys can turn out such great builds.

I also agree with your "change of pace" comment, it changes the mindset from the wings and fuselage and refreshes the system a bit !!

Cheers, D

Thanks guys...I still can't find my hobby chain. Still looking.

Yeah I replaced the windshild with Lexon Plexiglass. It's used in NASCAR and other racing vehicles, so why not.

Ok guys, I thought it might be high time I posted some progres and proved that I am actually involved with a build rather than a few words !!

Once again I apologise in advance for the poor quality of the pics, my digital camera is apparently beyond repair so until I come up with some fundage for a replacement the mobile phone will suffice.

First the power plant, I added some spark, and it still needs some oiling up and a few scratches . .

For the nit-pickers, yes the firing order is correct !!

Then the interior, I chopped out the instrument panel and tunes, and added a couple of dash-top gauges from sprue and wire. The battery is held down with some wine-bottle foil straps, and the roll bars are more sprue. . . .

The interior just needs a harness and some dirt.

I've painted the underside black and done most of the front end, base coated the engine bay in grey and it's waiting for detail painting.

I haven't decided on a body colour yet, not sure if I'll go luminous like Joe, or maybe something dull so I can hide in the dust cloud and sneak up and ninja assault you lot !!

Cheers, D

Now your moving Damian, looks good so far...one thing though, I don't really think the beer cap will work out well for a tire
