The model looks quite simple and quick to build, but let's see how it turns out.

That's an AMT kit; there's nothing simple about an AMT truck kit. If you are used to building armor kits, you will be quite disappointed as there will be lots of flash, poor fit, and vague instructions (at best). They do build up nicely, but you need to beat on them for a while. And remember, the mold on this is 40 years old.

This will build up as a 1969-71 Kenworth W923 (spring rear suspension) or W925 (if you found one with the torsion bar rear suspension). What is your plan for the build?

Jim, my plan is to build believable W-92x mostly OOB. But if there's something that looks obviously wrong, I'll have to do something about it. As far as painting and decals go, I'm not planning to use the AMT's Watkins decals. Don't want to brush paint almost completely white cabin...

Thanks for the info and heads up. There were already minor fit issues with sleeper, and I'll have to slightly sand down quite prominent rivets. This version seems to have leaf springs on rear.

I guess this is part of the Value Dekotora series that I am completely unfamiliar with. The kit was on sale so I grabbed it.

edit: web search dekotora trucks ... Jiminy Crickets! Maybe I WILL add all those chrome parts. Some of those trucks look RAD!

Is this the latest reissue o0f the W925? Did it come with the red decals? If not, you should be able to get them at Model Truckin'

I saw this M939? water truck the other day and thought of this campaign. Maybe someone wants to tackle this conversion from an Italeri or AFV Club kit in 1/35?

Wow, I really oughta get cracking on my project...

The W-925 is kit number 1021/06, which I think is the latest re-issue. It comes with red decals over white paint job. I'll check the decal shop once I feel that the kit is likely to be finished. Thanks for the link.

Loved this sticker on the wrapping.

I wouldn't have thought "vintage molds" a marketing tool. This kit must have first been released in the late 70's / early 80's. Though to give Round 2 their due the cab looks a pretty good for a single piece.

Though as mentioned by another AMT builder, the rivets are impressive, maybe for a Mark IV tank!`

The 352 is a nice choice. Yes, AMT went a little nuts with the rivets on the truck cabs. I'm pretty sure most of the rivets were flush, anyway.

Frame work being done. The instructions are rather bland when it comes to locations of parts, but we persevere.

These Tanks have a molding error:-



Locating pins for halfs make straps offset!
Removing pins and next up glue two correct halfs together.

That is totally off. Yeah, you probably need to disassemble those and mate the halves with the other.

How do you do this? Spray and leave it to soak? How long does it take? does it need to be scrubbed off or does it wash off? Sorry for the inquisition, I haven't seen this before.

Hi Michael .

I put the sprues and parts in a ziplock bag, fill it with Mr Muscle oven cleaner foam, seal it up and leave it overnight. Hit it with a toothbrush in a sink of warm water and the chrome should come off easily leaving you with clean bare plastic. A couple of times I have had to repeat it to get some stubborn chrome off, but this is rare.

I use regular oven cleaner, the stuff I use takes the chrome off in about 10 minutes.
The parts are placed in a plastic tray,sprayed then I use a plastic brush to scrub parts.
Wash off slime with cold water and then set aside to dry.
I will give the parts another clean before painting.

Removed locating pins on the tanks and now correctly line up!

I'm having the same chrome problem with my Mack. Even the steering wheel and the fifth wheel are chromed!
