The Ford Blue Circle campaign just picked up its 15th enlistee:
heavyjagdpanzer. Welcome to our campaign. Any ideas on what your build will be?

Inspiration pics for today, found this beauty parked outside my sons primary school.

I'm certainly not a Ford expert, but I did some research and it looks to be a '64 Landau.

D', Shoulda got the rear deck shot too. IIRC they had 'jet exhaust' tail lights that looked like jet engines in afterburner when you stepped on the brakes.

It's been a couple of weeks, time for another inspirational moment. Somebody just has to build an Edsel!

D,
One of my neighbors actually bought one. I don't remember the exact year but it was only manufactured from 1958-1960. All us guys thought it was really weird looking.

The Edsel certainly has an odd appearance. It's gaining more popularity in the classic US car scene. Still not one you see, very often at car meetings though. When you do see one, it will always have lot's of people around it. AMT's Edsel will make a killer display model.

Guys,
We're starting to roam from the posted rules of the Ford campaign, specifically rules #4 & 5. The model must have either the Blue Ford Circle on it, or the name Ford. In the case of the Edsel, neither can I find, so it doesn't meet the stated rules.

As for the Thunderbird that is in the posted pictures, I can't find either on the body work, only the name Thunderbird. And while it's certainly a Ford, it also doesn't meet our posted rules, which really is an issue, as it's certainly a Ford by manufacture, but not by badge.

The same would apply to Mercury's that don't have the Ford Badge, but fortunately, most do.

So we either need to re-write the rules, or follow them as we've already denied a few proposed builds based on those rules.

Apologies Joel, I forgot that we amended the rules to have the Blue Oval or the FORD name visible on the original subject. Just caught up in the lead-up discussions I suppose.

I will definitely refine my search criteria for inspiration images and steer the crew in the right direction!

Vale Lee Iacocca .

Sad news, the passing of a legend in the automotive industry and charitable worker later in life.

He played a big part in the development of the Mustang and Pinto range in the Ford stable, as well as at various times being President, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler and having a hand in the development of the K-car and minivan there.

D,
Well said. And may he RIP.

Lee Iacocca was a true icon of the American Automobile Industry, who changed how many generations looked at the American car. The Pinto, the Mustang, The Mini Van, and even the K Car.

I owned a 1970 302 Mustang for nearly 10 years, and honestly I loved the car. It was and still is the only car that I loved as much as my 1967 MGB.

I've got a tonne of Fords; Vans, Escorts, Focus, Mustangs, a Bronco, and a Sierra. If you're talking about "divisions" I also have a couple of Capris, and of course both EXPs and LN7s (because... yeah!).

I would love to be part of it, but I can never tell what whimsy is going to bite me when. So the idea is that we start in October and finish in 6 months? That might be pushing it, but if I'm in a Ford mood then I'll definitely join in.

I can let you guys know later what I will be building, right?

Spot on Adam, start October 1 and 6 months to finish.

Of course. And if you are anything like me you will change your mind monthly, if not weekly, prior to the start. If the build goes totally of the rails you can change during the build period as well.

It would be great to have you join us if you can.

Adam,
Come on and join us. 6 months is plenty of time to get started and finish most builds.

As long as your build has the Ford Blue Oval or the name Ford on it, it qualifies.

With the interest shown so far from the enlistees, it's going to be a great Campaign for sure.

Ohoho!
This campaign not even started yet and it has already eight pages! That says everything about the interest surrounding it!
Reading the thread, I realized that I am in trouble myself (again)
I know I announced a 1930 truck by AMT but meanwhile I have gifted with it a fellow Romanian modeler. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to buy another one until October 1st, although I'm still going to need it for an Al Capone project.
I'll be starting a commissioned Mustang '66 hardtop sometime in August, after my return in Sint Maarten, but that is going to disqualify me from GB for "stealing tha start".
Hmm... Someone have said Edsel? Eh well, I have one kit and my best guess is that one will join the GB, but all commissions considered, It cannot be earlier than January...
However, I'm gonna watch you having fun for sure!

Gabriel,
So you're still in Romania until August. That's only 3 weeks or so till you're back home and back on the board as well.

The campaign doesn't start till 10/1/19 so your commissioned Mustang build started in August will be jumping the gun a tad to early. As for the Edsel, the rules require that any build have the Ford blue emblem and or the name Ford on the model. We've yet to find either on the Edsel pictures to date. If you can come up with either, please post it so that Edsel's will make the cut.

I knew I'm in trouble, didn't I?
I never noticed the Edsel has no blue badge on it. Hm...
I think I still have in my stash a '40 coupe. That for sure it will make the cut.

P.S. Actually I'm flying in Sint Maarten in July 22nd. I just picked up August 1st to make sure I have the time to re-acclimatize and re-set my internal clock

Gabriel,
I'm really glad that you'll be back sooner then later. Just in time for the Hurricane season. But I'm sure that you're more then use to it.

I'd still scope out the Edsel's online and see if the body work says Ford anywhere. If it does, then it makes the cut. As for the '40 Ford Coupe if you go that way, will it be a true classic build, or a Mod/Rod?

I've changed my build a few times. Right now I'm all set for one of The Roush IMSA GTO Mustangs. I've got AM decals for the Folgers and the JPS cars, plus two kits, and even a resin body with vac windshields, that I'm 100% sure I'll screw up. And there are no 2nd chances as those resin bodies are long out of production. Nothing like a little extra pressure to sweeten the pie.

The JPS car is Gloss Black just like the Lotus F1 cars, so I have two full Gravity bottles of Black paint. The Proper color for the Folgers car has proven to be somewhat more of a challenge, since I prefer the actual color if possible over my ad hoc self mixing. And I've actually found two USA based custom paint online companies that makes it. ScaleFinishes and MCW. So I'm set until I once again change my mind.

If you visited this Blue Oval discussion and you didn't know much about cars you think that Ford only designed and made over-sized, over-powered, uni-directional cars!
I thought I would rectify that with my experience with Ford in my early days, which were all designed by Ford UK and tended to be much prettier and better than their Atlantic cousins
My first job after school was at an architects' office copying plans on A1 sheets, a smelly toxic job though I think they thought 14yr old boys disposable back then. One of the architects lived near me and would give me a ride home in his Ford Prefect 100E, an outstanding example of post war British production. 1172cc engine, 0-60mph in 32 seconds and a top speed of 71mph!

At the end of high school, a friend of mine whose parents were pretty well off bought him a Ford Cortina Mk2 GTE. This was a NZ special, gold with brown pin stripping. It had a 1600 engine and could motor some for the mid-70's.

Out of school in my first proper job, some friends and I decided to go tramping in the National Park. One of them owned what is now one of the all time great looking Fords, the Anglia. We had 5 people plus packs and a 5gallon tin of fuel (gas stations weren't open on the weekends in NZ during the late 70's due to some crisis or other). What would have been a normal 4 hour trip took 8 with the load. The Anglia was good for a top speed of 50mph downhill!

Despite what I said about size, you always know those Aussies will buck the trend with their home grown production. My dad was a shopfitter and during his later working life had a series of Ford Falcon 500 stationwagons. Large land based whales, they were also good for a family of six to go on holidays around NZ for weeks at a time carrying everything required.

I didn't actually buy a Ford until my 20's (my only one). The last of the Fords assembled in NZ, the Cortina MK IV wagon, was a car beloved by the Govt and they bought 10s of thousands of these, always white and always a bargain at the surplus sales. I bought one with my brother when we bought a house together with two Newfoundlands as tenants, They were too big for the back so sat on the rear seats, head out the window. These cars were well built and you still see them occasionally on the roads.

So hopefully this balances the Blue Oval tale somewhat. Interestingly, neither the Prefect nor the Anglia would qualify for this campaign because they have no Ford badge or oval.

cheers
Michael

Michael,
Thanks for that most informative history lesson of Ford's involvement in Australian/New Zealand auto industry. Honestly, I didn't know about most of those marques outside of Falcon (which is a true core Ford product), and the Cortina (which I actually got to drive some laps in at Bridgehampton).

For the most part, Ford bought into, or bought the whole company, rather then developing a Ford Corp of Australia from the ground up. These types of examples exist throughout the western world, as it equally applies to General Motors, Chrysler, Fiat, etc.

The concept for our campaign is any Ford product that is badged with the Blue Ford Oval, or the name "Ford" Appears on the car. A Australian built Falcon qualifies, but as you said neither the Prefect nor the Anglia would. Yet when I did a few Google searches the car is referred to as a Ford Anglia. Why these auto manufactures opted not to display the name nor Moniker of Ford is how we're accepting or denying a car for the campaign, rather then where, when, or why it was manufactured.

Great post Michael, love seeing the local production types posted here. A good friend of mine had a TC Cortina in British Racing Green for years. The 250 ci straight six in it was indestructible. Sadly the car was written off when a Mercedes Benz decided to pull out of a side road in front of him when he was doing almost 100k/h. Both cars were write-offs, luckily no major injuries.

It is interesting that some of the most iconic and recognisable Ford marques have neither the FORD name or the "Blue Oval" badge visible on them, even my '36 5-window Coupe barely scrapes in with a tiny Blue Oval on the hubcap of the spare wheel carrier.

Luckily this part can be easily removed and refitted to the shell, so I can display the street rod version both with and without this attached.
There is supposed to be another Blue Oval on the front grille beneath the V8 emblem, but instead there is an even tinier "Ford" name that is barely even visible.

Hi Joel !
The paper model appears to be a early 1993 , looses some of its curves when the paper is glued to thin card.
I am working on building a back drop for photographing my car models.
I have got a lot of ideas off Pinterest and came across paper models cars and down loaded a few(free).
Nice change from plastic.
