Joel, its a relatively modern Craftsman. It might could get to 180, but I doubt it. Its nominal max is probably closer to 125, ideal for most woodworking / carpentry projects. Not enough for mechanical tools, impact wrenches and the like. As an engineer, it bothers me that I'm only working in such a small part of the range. The needle moves the same distance from 20 to 25psi as it does from 0 to 15psi. So I'm not sure what pressure I'm really using. I can use the knob to adjust the pressure, but at that end of the range there really isn't a lot of movement to make a large change in pressure. In the end, I try to leave the needle at 20, try to thin the paint to "milk like consistency" what ever that is, and hope it all works out in the end.

Mark,
Craftsman is a Sears Brand that's made by someone else. I still have Craftsman tools from 50 years ago. When we got married 40 yeas ago, literally, everything we bought for the house was from Sears/Craftsman.

Since you're turning a knob that adjusts the flow of air from the tank via a regulator valve with a gauge, the real issue is just how precise the gauge is, and how fine of measurements it's capable of. Close is good enough. If 20 psi is 18 or 23 psi, it's not a big deal. Once your painting procedure is in your comfort zone, you're all set. With variations in paint and paint consistency, plus changes in room temp and humidity, the psi will need to be slightly adjusted. With practice comes confidence.

You'll do just fine.

Alright,progress!
Chassis is about as done as it's gonna get.

Wheels are just placed in the axles, I don't want to affix them till the body is in place.

Cabin just place on the chassis in the middle of painting.

Aluminum paint should have cured a bit more before I dusted off the salt.

I had to hand paint the white walls, they might need a bit more work.

Mark,
The chassis weathering and rusting really came out looking great. As for the White Walls, just use a sharpened toothpick to remove the excess. If it's water or alcohol based paint, just dip the Toothpick into it 1st.

Looking real good Michael. That powder blue looks great with the decals on.

My GT is progressing nicely. Got my son to help me with the decaling of the interior last night.

Lots of greys, blacks and metallic, and first coat of white primer on the bodywork

close up of the interior, about halfway through decaling.

I will second Joel's comment here Mark, very nice work! I also run a drop of black PLW around the whitewalls to cover a bit of the overpaint but also give the impression of some collected grime. Your interior finish looks very tidy as well.

Neil, great progress on the GT, the tub is coming together really well.

Neil,
The interior looks fantastic.

I see that you opted for the Zero paints. Zero & Gravity are my equal favorites. So they started to use their 30ml bottles instead of the 60ml bottles that was causing Spot models havoc with international shipping. Plus you got their single bottle of Lacquer clearcoat that is for painted body shells. Previously, they and Gravity have only advised the original single mix clearcoat for smaller jobs. And actively push their Urethane which I'm really Leary about.

Will be ordering some ASAP, all though I still have 6 unthinned bottles of Mr. Color gloss clear to use up 1st.

I did some reading around and there were a lot of comments about their two part lacquers being especially nasty to work with, so decided go with the one part lacquer.

In one of the pics you can see the stand for my Snowspeeder that I am also working on for the Sci-Fi campaign, I intend to do that stand in gloss white and so that will be my test bed for the use of the white paint and lacquer coat.

Neil,
I'll be looking forward to seeing and hearing about your results.

Yep, I've heard some horror stories, as well as all the extra safety precautions needed to shoot those Urethane clearcoats. Just not the way I want to go. While it takes me a lot longer to produce a smooth, deep, gloss finish, I'm happy with the results I'm now getting.

Great work Mark, the chassis and the interior look excellent. The weathering on the underside is very realistic.

Neil, the GT interior looks great. Also useful to have an assistant, unfortunately no interest from my boy. I look forward to seeing how the paint work comes out.

I am calling this complete though getting it there was not without issues, even in the closing stages.

For the record - Ford Escort MK1 RS1600 driven by Timo Makinen in the 1973 RAC Rally of Great Britain.

The second Escort is part painted but in need of me making some decals for it.

Thanks to Joel to running a great campaign - roll on the next one - it going to be pink.

cheers

Michael

Michael,
WOW

Simply a steller build that turned out fantastic. You should be proud of the way she turned out as she motored over the finish line. A victory very well deserved.

I've done very little here to make this GB what it has grown to be. Damian has as usual put his Heart & Soul into its success, and each and every member has done more then their fair share.

The AutoModeler community has been growing by leaps & bounds from the little, sleepy, off shoot of KitMaker Network, to the newest powerhouse of modeling. Congrats to each and everyone of you for making us grow to what we are today, and will continue to grow to even greater heights.

I'm not so sure about "powerhouse of modeling", but it is a nice place to hang out, discuss modeling, & get ideas.

Jim,
I was referring to just KitMaker Network. When I 1st posted here as a military modeler, that post was still on page 1 of that build thread almost a year later. Now our community is growing, and the action has really picked up. So to me it's kind of like a powerhouse of sorts.

We are a small group compared to the other Kitmaker forums, but I really like the dedication, and the diversity of interests, and especially the combined skillset here. It is never a chore to jump on and see what's going on, I know I'm not going to land in the middle of a drama or an argument about some obscure paint colour, detail or marking that just seems to set people off on so many of the online communities these days (mainly Facebook). The only arguments I've had on Automodeler were in the classic "Chev vs Hemi" days with Hermon (VonCuda), and they were just good natured banter and hilarious insults.

We have struck a great formula here and I look forward to watching it grow as more folks join in.

Cheers Joel, coming from great race car builder that's high praise!
On the campaign dont undersell your contribution. You're a major part of the new life in Automodeler. I was looking at the "what the postman brought" blog. It's a good example of the turnaround. It started in 2014 and there were 8 pages of posts up to start of 2019. There were 12 pages alone for last year, admittedly 95% of them were Damian's and 94% were Chevys so in my world you say the data is slightly skewed, but you get the picture. And as Damian says above, it's a very friendly forum and great to build and show in.

Michael
