Waaahey... Slipped past the rules

If it is any consolation I started the built well within the campaign runtime. First pictures I took were from 12 Jan... started building 2 days earlier.

Robert: Well then I really don't see that there was any "rule bending" you started within the time constraints for the Group Build...

Great looking build!! Enjoying it tremendously!!

Nice Trabant Hakan. Makes me remember a tour I once had through Berlin in one of the Little Trabbys... Lots of fun that was.

Got a bit of an update. Starting flinging paint at details that needed to be an other color then grey. Every thing is still in basecoat but it gives you an idea which direction it is going.

More paintflinging will follow soon. After that washes, filters, pinwashes and an assortment of weathering. With a sidedish of mud.

With friendly greetz

Knowing the Trabi, booster rockets would definitely be needed if you want to take it on the Autobahn.

Yes, the Trabant would need a JATO booster to reach proper autobahn speeds. A few rounds of 90mm Rheinmetall prior to running it over with a KaJaPa might also work

From a "near miss" experience in the early 1990s many Trabbi drivers didn't care about lack of speed (and other features) and ran

Finally some (small) progress to share!

I've had this kit for years and always wanted to open it up. I'm planning a small garage-dio scene...

First off is to convert her to a 'ragtop'

Rounded the windscreen sides, removed the lip at its btm,
and sanded the roof's leading edge.

Filled the incorrect bumper and tailpipe openings (sorry, no rocket boosters), and opened up the decklid.

Even tho it was delicate surgery, this was fun to work on, I haven't done any type of car conversion, bash, scratch etc in years!

comments, q's, critiques encouraged. Thanks -
Dave

Started with the body.
Because I find out it's going to be a lot of sanding to get it right.
This is how it looks right now.
But as to be completly smooth.
Why?
In contrast to the Beetle's machine welded-body with bolt-on fenders, the Karmann Ghia's body panels were butt-welded, hand-shaped and smoothed with English pewter in a time-consuming process commensurate with higher-end manufacturers – and resulting in the Karmann Ghia's higher price.
So that's why
Photo's.

First problem.

A bit of plastic is missing.

It should be like this.

That's going to be sanding and filling and sanding and filling and ..........................................

@ Jessica

@ Sascha
Excellent choice. It is either the ICM kit or that of Revell which is the same kit. They are the only ones selling an Admiral.

@ Sal
Awesome choice. Those are really nice 170V Kits. Looking forward to the work on it.

@ Steph
Thanks for the compliments. And great start on the Admiral. I sold that kit couple of weeks ago and now I see your built I kinda regret it.

@ Eric.
Wow that is some bad molding you got going on there. Indeed a lot of sanding. You probably could beat out a new carriage out of aluminum in the same amount of time. Looking forward to how you are going to save that.

Ok I got a bit of an update. I detailpainted everything. Some parts are taken over from the Civilian version to show the heritage of the car before it was pushed into service. and then I began weathering of the car starting with the wash. I also aged the leather seats and gave them a more used look. And I made the radiator cover look more canvassy.

A view on the dashing dash. The dials are kinda resemble the real deal but the details are not that visible in the end so I did not spend a lot of time playing Rembrandt.

And then starting the washes

And this is about the cleanest this car will ever be. From here it only goes downhill.

I was planning on building some more on my project but a cold has set me back a week... next window of opportunity for me is Wednesday!
