Hello, Gents.

A few parts coming (slowly) together:

I also decided to retool the exhausts. I have to wait for Alclads. Hopefully they'll make it on time:

Hopefully more updates soon.

Cheers,
Gabriel

Hi, Guys

It's me again with small updates:

Interior finished, except the roof panel:

Hood interior re-worked for open display: it has 4 ugly ejection pin marks I had to deal with; initially ignored because first plan was to display the hood shut:

Opening system scratch-built based on references; my result is a little bulkier and not so accurate, but will be barely visible on finished model and only for a very sharp viewer's angle:

Additional work was done on the body, but I don't want to disclose further details of this aspect: it is an intended surprise (a pleasant one, hopefully) for all of you, guys.

Thank you for following up,
Cheers Gabriel

Excellent detail, Gabriel!
I'm glad to see this build still going. I'm about to dive back into it myself also.

Thank you, Sean.

More or less the model is finished. Still to paint couple details and to polish the body.
If I good remember, there were four identical models entering the group build. One of them is finished, yours is coming along... it will be a very nice comparative build study upon complerion of all four.

I cannot wait to see yours crossing the finish line.

Cheers, Gabriel.

Looks great Gabriel.

A surprise. Excellent. I'm guessing a tow truck for the Chevy

Thank you, Jesper.

Actually I was thinking to customize graphics with, let say: "Hemi recovery vehicle" or something...

I suddenly realized the silver paint just cannot make it in my island's climate. It looks great at first but in couple of days turns dull. And if I spray clear coat on top, the effect is even worse: looks like sick aluminum. Back to bare metal foil (hate it). Not the foil, but the application (%$#&&^%!!) Maybe the Alclad will make the difference... still waiting for them.

Cheers, Gabriel

Ah, 1962, when Chevrolet crafted beautiful works of art.
Did I mention I started on my Chevy half to this campaign?
Chevy starting kit by windysean, on Flickr
Car parts everywhere by windysean, on Flickr
First coat final color by windysean, on Flickr
My son has joined me on this one. He likes his cars bone stock, and I love a good sleeper, so we are following the stock options on this-- with the factory dual-carb 409.
We looked over a factory paint chip list for the year and model and chose a few, then took it to the hardware store to select an approximate color off-the-shelf gloss spray can. His first choice was Anniversary Gold, then Surf Green, but the one we found was near enough to Twilight Blue.
I have found that the AMT kit does not contain parts for the stock rear tire backs. The parts tree skips the number 38, and the instructions label the front and rear backs both as part 37, but only 2 #37 are in the box, and the rears should fit the metal axle, not the plastic plugs used in front. I'll have to make the fatter slick wheel back work. Otherwise, the kit is wonderful.
thanks,
Sean

Gabriel, looking great. Excellent detail work.

Jesper, if you have nothing constructive to add, well, you know

Sean, looking good mate! As you said, a work of art. Looking forward to more progress on this one. Jesper, pay attention, this man knows what he is talking about.

Unfortunately no progress for me, work has me running around in the pre-Christmas chaos that our building industry turns into every year!

Hi, Guys

Thank you, Damian.

Waiting for Alclad paid off:

And the sparkling pipes installed on place:

Also, a few touches to the body. I cannot show you yet the sides, it will spoil the surprise

A few more small things to be addressed, and I should claim it finished...

Cheers,
Gabriel

I'm impressed. The body shines like a mirror, and the sidepipes look like real chrome.
I'm looking forward to seeing this come together-- and to know what surprise the sides have for us!

Hi, Gents.

@Sean: Thank you very much, sir. Sorry, I missed your post earlier. The Chevrolet is a beauty. Good job in learning your son the true values (mind you, Jesper!) The color is a good pick. As a die hard European, I am a "stock" supporter. "Hot rods," "Gassers," "Low Rides" and "Big Foots" are garage mistakes (half serious)

@Jesper: OK, thank you for head-up. I covered the "rust holes" with a nice looking spoiler:

Also finished adding all external details: mirrors, bumper, bumperettes...

As always, still a (interminable) couple of touches...

If anything well, it should be ready before the end of the week...

Cheers,
Gabriel

Hello, Gents

@Jesper: Thank you. The license plate is part of the surprise. The following pictures will reveal a little more, but not all. Sure somebody will guess...

First, two pictures with the finished engine, just before to attach the hood, which will shadow much of it. I didn't reach Jesper's level of detailing

Now, the veil is lifting up... I was just messing around with the camera; I thought you may like this pic.

And my "couple of touches" list shrunk to literally two (which I am aware of!): a right side blinker and a scratch on the left side fender... Then the final shin-up and full reveal.

Cheers,
Gabriel

Szmann - That paint is outstanding!

Sean - If you need stock Chevy wheels, I can look through my parts stash and probably find something for you. Let me know. And great you're including the offspring

More progress...
Here's what I'll hide under the hood:
Wheel wobble requires gluing. Look, Ma, no tie rod! by windysean, on Flickr
The front wheels were mounted on plastic plugs to spin, but there was too much slop in the fit that the wheels leaned in/out, so I glued them solid to avoid the wobble. Here I haven't glued the fronts in place yet, so they're posed cocked in like this.
My son is mid-painting on the interior here. Nice variation of color. Still picking out details before we close it up.

Cheers!

Hi, Gents.

@ KoSprueOne: Thank you, sir!

For once, I managed to finish on time! What am I saying? BEFORE time! (see that, Jim? )

Before anything else, I have an overdue picture. I have promised Jesper I will change the wheels on Superbird. I have done it long ago but I realized only now I never published it. Thank you again for head-up, Jesper:

Now, to reveal the last build, which completes the task. Yet before, I have to mention that this last build it was conceived as a token of appreciation for Auto Modeler community in its whole. I know the graphics are not identical with the community logo, but I had a problem there with my computer...

I wish to particularly mention just one name (I hope nobody will feel discriminated): Jesper. The reasons why: he was the first one to answer my posting after I joined the community, a little more than a year ago; since then, he is constantly encouraging my efforts. And even more, and I wish to thank him especially for that, he gentlemanly points at my mistakes, as a friend should do. This explains the license plates (and partially the color scheme). The Chevy logo on right fender has the dedicated purpose of teasing him. Besides all that, Jesper is a fine and dedicated modeler, from who we all can learn. Thank you, Jesper and thank you all. I hope my contribution is worthy enough to be accepted as a Christmas gift for everyone involved in scale modelling.

Now, enough talk! let see some pics:

That's all, folks! Merry Christmas!

P.S. Damian, you're going to see me (again!) sooner than you expect, I guess. I am moving in your realm with a Flying Fortress (commissioned).

Well done Gabriel, a beautifully finished pair (even if one is a Hemi). Congratulations on getting them done ahead of time, and I love the extra touches.

Jesper, Sean, keep building guys. It doesn't look like I will get either build finished by the official end date, so we will keep going for a while after.
