A bump for this campaign thread...
I've been picking out details in the engine compartment, and letting the gloss paint cure. It's been tacky for over a week, but the unusually warm, wet December is partly to blame there. It's almost cured and shines nicely now.
Hand painted details picked out in the engine space by
windysean, on Flickr
We have the interior tub separate, picking out more painted details there too.
I intend to go the Bare Metal Foil route, but the material I bought 10 or 15 years ago seems to have tarnished and the adhesive isn't working, so I have to get back to the hobby shop in the next few days for more.
Cheers!

Now I've done it. I waited quite a while for the paint to cure, and when I finally thought it wasn't tacky anymore, I slathered a coat of Pledge Future floor polish over it.
Well, as that dried, it started to orange peel on me. At least it's very fine, the last I checked, only visible very close-up. I'll give it more time to settle before I assess the damage (if any).
I may have rushed the coats too close together that the under coats didn't fully set, so the whole paintjob is taking very long to cure. I waited about 24 hours between, but maybe that still wasn't enough for this brand of paint on this primer on this plastic.
I'll have more later.

Bummer, I feel your pain Sean.
I had a bit of a setback myself. Only needed to add the sideview mirror and I was all done, with the Vette. this was not to be though, for one of the taillights, on the corvette, decided to cave in. Had to brake the body of the chassis to fix this. Obviously contemplated leaving the taillight as is, for added realism, but decided against it.

"Added realism" is for another site, Jesper

 You decided wisely.
@Sean: sad. I've seen on YT the same problem to a Canadian guy. Unfortunately, he found no other cure than stripping the paint (fingers crossed).
C'mon, guys, one last push!
Cheers,

I'm still going. I sanded down the orange peel texture and put on a new coat of color yesterday. I'll fine sand that later today or tomorrow and lay on another coat to get the gloss back.
After a week or so, I'll assemble it and work on the chrome.
I won't try the Future again until a month or more after the build ends.
Wish me luck!

If you look close enough, it's still there. I'm letting it cure good and long. I am staying home from work for the holidays next week, so I'll wrap this up then. Sometime after the final photos for this group build, I'll come back to this to lay on some Future Floor Finish and hopefully build up some gloss. We'll see then!

I put mine in the Automodeler/Group Build gallery. I hope that was right, because mine are the only photos there!
Ah, well, it was a great campaign anyway.
Did we establish which was the superior automotion? Both my kits gave me trouble, so I can't rely on them to decide. From personal experience, the trunk rusted out on both my Dodge Dart and Chevelle, and none of my cars would have won any races. On the other hand, my grandfather's 1975 Nova had zero add-ons, but the enormous 8 cylinder engine...
Anyway, signing off.

Well folks, real life has kicked me in the $% once again and I have another two stalled builds. I am happy to keep plodding here and try to get them finished so anybody else in my position please feel free to keep building and posting.
Sean, Richard, awesome builds! It is great to see some more completed works here at the end of the official time frame.
I will be putting together a ribbon ( I have a vague idea in mind) and posting it here in the next couple of days for comment.
Cheers, D

Well that would be a great vinyl top effect. The color looks perfect in those final pictures. Good job and finish

Thanks, guys. It turned out better than I expected, even with all of the fingerprints I put on it during the Bare Metal Foil application.
I really learned a lot here from you car builders here, and I have much respect for you.
Cheers!

Ok folks, I have made an executive decision since the AutoModeler administration has been AWOL for a year or more! I am going to keep this Group Build alive indefinitely.
There are a few of us still plodding along and I really want to see some more finished builds. I also really really want to see some more friendly banter
Gabriel, Sean, Richard, HUGE kudos to you guys for getting finished and doing such great work on your builds. I have made a ribbon and awarded it to all of you. Hopefully it will show up in your profile soon!
Everybody else, me included, keep building and keep sniping!
Cheers, D

Great work gentlemen. It takes a great artist to make a Chevy look like a real car.

Neatly done, Jesper. I still don't understand why you even try to work on Mopar... You know it's useless...
Cheers, man, great builds. I love the wiring on firewall and I am cursing myself I didn't figured it out earlier. Thanks for sharing.
@Sean: My apologies for late reply. That Chev it's a beauty! I'm glad yoy got it done!
@Richard: good job, sir! I was tempted to do my own Chevy race green but I decided finally to put myself in trouble.
@Damian: thank you, lad. I think your decision it's right, given the complexity of the challenge.
Cheers, fellows.

Jesper, that's some top notch work! I'm very impressed with the shine on both cars and the dashboard details! Hard to believe that is 1/25 scale!!
Cheers, all!

Jesper, that 'Vette is top notch my friend, you must be extremely proud to have such a stunning piece of machinery gracing your display shelf. It will take centre stage and pride of place for sure !
On the other hand, it must be very frustrating to have that Charger finished and on the shelf just to come back later and find that it has just collapsed in pieces on the floor. Never mind, just stick it back together again, and again, and . . . .
Seriously, your detail work on the Charger is superb, beautiful work.
Cheers, D
