David,
How about just a little hint as what your build will be

Joel

A Ford? LOL

Early 70's.

David,
Ok, I asked for that. So how about another hint?

A 1st Gen, V8 powered, highly sought after vehicle that pulls in high dollars when properly restored.

I'll confirm it when I get notification that the resin conversion parts will ship.

David,
I'm going to take a really wild guess and go with the 1964 Mustang that had a 260-cubic inch V-8 engine with a 4 speed trany as an option, while it was standard with a 170-cubic inch 6 cylinder engine and a three-speed transmission.

LOL, the WAG (Wild A$$ Guess) is wrong. Missed the 70's bit in the earlier post.

I can keep this up for a while longer (still haven't heard back about the resin bits yet). I've also now decided it will be a minor resto-mod.

Just got a confirmation email that the parts will ship in two weeks.

I'm not much of a hot rodder or muscle car guy. Sports cars and 4WD are more my style.

In keeping with that, the Revell Baja Bronco has been obtained and the Fireball Modelworks lifted suspension, fender flares, roll cage (which will be further modified), 35" Goodyear MT/R Kevlar tires on Method wheels and some other bits are ordered.

Going to convert the engine to EFI and add some shorty headers and a dual exhaust with crossover tube, add rock sliders, a winch and scratch build a spare tire carrier.

Still deciding if it will be more rockcrawler or overlander (think weekend camper getaway vehicle) biased. That will determine which way the interior goes, racing seats or high back buckets, etc.

What I am having trouble finding is some modern Scepter Fuel cans and Water cans in 1/25th scale. Going to have another go looking at shapeways again tonight, but their search engine is horrible.

My mind went to the Torino as well, but it first rolled off the lines in the 60’s as well. I didn’t even think of the Bronco, but that sounds like an awesome project you are putting together there David! I’m looking forward to seeing some pics of the components once you have them all assembled and laid out.

Cheers, D

David,
Great choice for sure. You also dropped an additional hint that it's not a car which I naturally missed when you said it a 70's Vehicle. I just assumed it was a car.

And like Damian, I did think of the Bronco but dismissed it as not being a car.

Sounds like a great build. Please consider doing a build blog in the Car forum as well as cross posting in the GB thread, which can be hard to follow as the number of enlistees grows (we're up to a record 20!), and we're all posting our build's progress in that thread.

As for the gas cans, there's tons of them in 1/35th scale, but finding them in 1/25 scale won't be easy. I'll keep my eye (literally) for them.

Thanks on the lookout. I've got a couple US WW2/Vietnam style ones in 1/25 and will use them if I need too. I spent a while searching Shapeways last night and found some metal NATO style ones in 1/25. I may try ordering those, but not really what I want.

I also found a chainsaw that I may pickup too. LOL

D,
Thanks for the double updated list it's greatly appreciated. I really didn't think that our GB would get to 15 members, and now we're at 22! This is simply amazing.

We're just 25 days away from the official start.

Hi there

I bought a kit to enter on Amazon last night. I won't tempt Fate by saying what it is yet, because it's coming from the US and isn't due to arrive until around the starting date. I guess it's being shipped by surface mail, but the postage is free so I'm quite happy with that.

All the best

Rowan,
What a great surprise Now don't forget to enlist. You can always remove yourself if the kit never makes it. Better hope that it's not being shipped via boat as the Atlantic has 1 mean Hurricane and now 3 tropical waves all heading in some direction North.

Hi Joel

Don't worry - I'm all signed-up.

Hopefully the weather will allow my kit to get through - the quoted delivery time is so long, I'm presuming it's coming by sea...

All the best

Inspiration photo for today, taken through the windscreen of my car.

Things you see in a McDonalds Drive-Thru!

I followed it down the freeway for a few kilometres just admiring the lines, a beautiful thing!

Cheers, D

Here's the front end! I forgot I took these several years ago at the local race track when they had a retro on NZ drivers from the 60's.

Michael,
They make a kit car of the GT40 that I can't afford either, but would die a happy man if I had one for just a bit.

l'm in the group of folks that thinks the GT40 (later models) to be the absolute prettiest automobile ever built. When I look at supercars, there is a portion of my brain dedicated to comparisons with the GT40 - how the headlights look, the scoops, those fat tires and wheels, everything. Even the new Ford GT (one of which sits on my workbench right now) can't match it for sheer beauty in my eyes.

D,
This is going to be an epic GB for AutoModeler for sure.

As you can see in the Car forum, I've already started the BHP Transkit as it's not my official entry, but a companion build. And it's really getting my Ford Racing Car juices flowing.
