I'm thinking about getting this set.

I like the Mason-Dixon decals.

Mike

Well, seeing as it has my screen name in it, I'd go for that set too.

Not to unusual to see just DOT numbers and a company name on just the cab doors too.

Mike,
Great decal sheet. All of the companies on it really look quite good.

Payday's coming up in a few days, so I'll go ahead and order that sheet.

I'm pretty happy with how the mudflaps came out. Tamiya tape, sharp blade, and tweezers. The last remaining parts to paint are the mirrors. Lots of cleanup to them but once done, they'll get the same dark aluminum as everything else got.

Here's the picture of the grill in place with flat black painted on the sides - much better.

Mike,
Just a huge difference now when you look through the grill. And those mud flaps are really something else. Well done.

HI guys -

I'm calling the IMSA Mustang done. It turns out to have been a good project to build and went together much more smoothly than I expected. I had some fun with painting and details too - please take a look:

As you can see above, there is opportunity for color - and some detailing.

And below, for the body, i used IndyCals for the decals. They worked REALLY well - set up easily, didn,t stick too fast, didnt crack, could be bent around surfaces etc. Take a look:

OK - thanks for a fun group build - looking forward to seeing everyone's builds -

thanks

Nick

Lovely build Nick, and a great looking vehicle. As always, your added detail has really taken this one up a notch or two. Well done on getting it off the bench and on display, and huge thanks for joining the Group Build.

Plenty of Blue Ovals there as well, so no issues with conformity here!

Nick,
Just an outstanding build. I'm really super impressed how you took that old Monogram kit and kicked it up quite a few notches equal to many of today's Tin Top type racing kits. Excellent detailing from the engine bay to the trunk. A true race car modeler's eye candy for sure.

Your build has certainly opened my eyes to the still real possibilities of those older Monogram kits. So it's your fault that their line of road racing cars will be added to my stash real soon.

Another small progress report, a case of 3 steps forward, 2 steps back here.

Steps forward:
The lessons learned from the stock '36 build and the extra time spent on the front end seem to have paid off. The engine cover assembly fits neatly and lines up very well, so a few more little tweaks and I'm ready for paint here.

Steps back:
I managed to spill a drop of TET on one of the rims before I clamped them for curing, and didn't notice until now. It has crazed the kit chrome. I love the look of these rims, so there's nothing for it but to pull them all apart and strip the kit chrome then work on refinishing them all. It is the top right wheel in this image, hard to pick up in the image but it's very dull and the chrome has lifted in a couple of small spots.

Maybe I can turn this into a cloud/silver lining scenario and paint the rims in matching body silver and the centre cap wine red.

I found some time to fire up the airbrush today, got some primer down on the grille and touched up a couple of spots, then gave it a couple of coats of silver. Everything here is dry fitted.

There are a couple of spots to touch up and then masking and putting down the Wine Red on the bonnet and grille and rumble seat cover.

Really liking that color combination Damian.

Can see the TET damage much more in the first picture with the motor and interior in the 64 thread. I think the strip and repaint with the wine would look great, better than all chrome.

D,
Super impressive work on getting that grill to fit so snuggly. Time certainly well spent.

I can really feel your pain & frustration on getting a drop or two of the TET on the Chrome wheel. I've done the same with trying to glue seats, and gear levers into a F1 car, and never noticed that the Extra Thin dripped onto the Alcad Aluminum side wall. But stripping and finishing all 4 wheels to match the body colors is a great idea.

I've done some more work is done on the box: back "door frame" added and mud flaps added. I just need a bit of clean-up and then attach all the marker lights.

Here's a mockup.

Loading ramp.

Mike,
looking real good, especially that loading ramp.

Are you going to be finishing it as a brand new box truck, or one that's had some work miles on it?

Thanks for the compliments Gents.

I plan to "keep it clean."

Oh, "Mason and Dixon" line decals on the way.

Very nice work Mike, moving along beautifully. Those Mason-Dixon markings will set it off perfectly, the blue is close but different enough from the cab to be really noticeable.

I got the Wine Red down on the bonnet and grille, and I'm very happy with the way it looks. The usual tidying up, touching up and polishing to do, but it is great to see how the whole scheme looks now. Once again, everything here is a loose dry fit, so hopefully the gaps will close up once I get things firmly in place.

And another positive note, a fellow local modeler close to home has offered a set of matching rims from the same kit to me free of charge, so I don't need to do any major work there. Thinking now to paint the centre caps Wine Rd but leave the chrome on the rest of the rim. I will shoot it on one of the spare rims to see how it looks on the body. It turns out that the rim that was damaged was also short-shot. There was actually no plastic under the chrome in one section of the outer rim and when I was working on getting it off the tyre it disintegrated.

Hi guys,

Mike, your box van is looking great! The black behind the grill looks good, so does the lift gate. I thought about your truck the other day - there was an ad on tv for the old show, The Jefferson’s - at the start of the show, they show an orange or red cab version of the truck rumbling through the streets of New York, with a single stripe along the box! No - I’m not even hinting you repaint, just a funny coincidence - keep up the great work

Hi D, you’re continuing to prove you’re one of the site’s top paint and body men - looking good!

Thanks guys for the support on the mustang - it was a fun build, and much better than I guessed it might be. Joel, yes, well worth picking one up if you find it, or I suspect others in the series. Looking forward to seeing more in the blue oval build!

Cheers
Nick
