My real loyalty is with Pontiac. I love the old Firebirds but now i drive a 2006 Mustang Gt

Well you are a very intelligent man and it's great to have you join us. Please don't pay ANY attention to the incoherent rants of the MOPAR fans hereabouts. While this Group Build is underway we will probably discuss a similar theme for next year, maybe a Pontiac vs Ford ?

Quoted Text

That could be very easy or a huge challenge.

What was that Mark, you'd love to join us? That's great, I'm sure you'll have fun !

Well i have my pick for the Chevy fans a 1960 Chevy pickup with a 6 cyclinder, just to help level the field a little i will swap the 6 for a 2005 Corvette motor that should even things up a bit and maybe the rims and seats also.

See what I mean, they pop up, carry on making no sense at all, then disappear again ! I think it must be too much fume intake from those toxic Hemi's.

I kept you guys in suspense long enough. First, I don't think I will suprise anybody with my Chevrolet choice. People who know me probably won't be suprised by my MOPAR choice either.

I would love to modify the Corvette to match my Grandsport. A small engine change, a few home made decals, modify the hood a bit, and new gills should pretty much do it. But I might just doo an OOB build. Can't really go wrong with a Corvette. As for the Viper. It will be OOB and probably the same scheme as on the box. I always loved the Viper. I just wish American car manufacturers would realize there is a big market for these cars by people who are actually larger than 5'10" and over 200 pounds. My 6'4", 300 pound disabled frame only fits inside a viper if the top is removed. The Corvette fits me just fine though. And I saved about $20,000 to boot.

Anxious to start these guys.

Oh yeah. We need a new thread. Perhaps it should be named "The Bashing Thread"

Carl, I hear ya...at 6'4" and 225lbs{currently} I believe there's only been 1 or 2 cars I've ever owned that the seat didn't go all the way back for me to comfortably fit in...even the cycles had issues, either too short in length for my arms or too short in height.
Nice choices for the build...I can only guess which kit you'll favor.....

Oh, and that build thread should be titled "Bash chebbies"....of course, since D feels we Mopar folks will bash him too much{is there such a thing?!} we can always have two official build threads....Good...and Chevy{evil}!

Now truth be told...of alot of the cars I've owned eons ago...though most were Mopars....I do miss my '67 Chevy II{mulsan blue}, '71 vega{pea green-light ivy poly} and '62 Gallaxie{champagne} and '70 Cougar{too faded to really tell- cali car}........but I'll never admit it openly!

Hehehehe, now we're cooking, you guys are going to make this Group Build a BLAST !!!

Any opinions on my "started build" dilemna ?? Since I have to strip the paint and disassemble some work already done, I think I'm actually starting from pit lane, instead of the grid ! If you guys don't offer up some yes or no's I'm afraid I'll have to ask Hermon, and he's just gunna laugh at me and call me names.

Also, I had a thought (yes Hermon, I did), how about an award for the most inventive and entertaining insult ? Against a car, not a modeller (I'm talking to you Hermon). I will keep a list of good ones as we go, and at the end of the Group Build I will put them all in one post on the thread and we can vote.

Cheerio chaps

I like the idea of the "Best Insult Award". I like it a lot. That is something that can be a continuing Annual Award. I was going to proceed on both builds with surgical precission, but now I am going to approach this build differently.

Damian. When you strip the chrome off, the pieces will probably all fall apart. So it would be as if you were starting from the begining anyway. I think you should build that monster. I am just sorry I don't have one of those in my stash.

Porsche vs. Ferarri, Jag vs. Mercedes, BMW vs Trabant, Ford vs John Deere, This thing could go on for many years.

Thanks Carl. I have the same kit I built many years ago that is in dire need of a total rebuild, but that's for another time, and I also have the 1/12 Corvette and Camaro from the same series in the stash.

I'm looking forward to your builds, and yeah, I love the Viper as well (pls don't tell Hermon, we'll never hear the end of it).

A two seater with an engine that is well north of 400 HP. I think just about any man would love it. So I think this would have to be considered a justifiable exception to the rule. I am a MOPAR guy from way back, so I think the Corvette would also have to be a justifiable exception. My problem is, who do I insult? Great quandry to be in, isn't it?

I like fast cars.

I think you should strip the paint and do what you need to do now and start rebuilding on the start date with every one else, this is going to be a very interesting group build.

3)...interesting concept - let me start the ball rolling then, Chebbies suck!..sorry, like most chevies that one was only running on just a few cylinders!
...Hmmmm, I think I'm warming up to this new{?} idea.

Carl, if I could make a suggestion.........Ooops! {pssst- "D"}

Now, a serious question...maybe two;
1)Damian, without having to scroll all 9 pages back can you please refresh my memory as to whether Pontiacs were being included in the Chevy side...I got an idea for a crazy GTO.
2) are the insults to be aimed at the actual car being modeled or just the venue it represents...or both?

2. Manufacturer Based - Chev/Pontiac vs Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge
crazy GTO is GO GO GO

All insults to be aimed squarely at the manufacturer, not the model OR the modeler.

In your case, 'coz you're special, you get to insult EVERYBODY !! You would be bored silly sitting there building for 12 months with no outlet.

I dropped some of the other campaigns that I unwisely entered (at my age ) just so I could become a pain to anyone who thinks that Plymouth could beat a Chevy (pre 1975) before the real cars were dropped from Detroits assembly lines.

1. Do I really have to build a Plymouth along with my Chevy? It will dirty up my work bench.
2. How much does hot air count towards the ribbon. I am full of it.
3.CHEVIES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost, but not quite. We are a day ahead of you because we feel sorry for you, and we can despatch your Hemi rescue package (gaskets and lifters and rods and bearings and. . . . . might as well send the block as well !!) so that it will actually arrive the day before we sent it. That way it will be sitting on your doorstep when you go out to try to start that thing up and find bits falling off it.

Aren't we considerate ?!?!?!?

...that would be nightmares then...thoughts of my old '74 nova{what a POS}...the '73 hatchback was ok cept it had a 307! Same for my old '74 vega GT with the '65 olds aluminum V-8 in it...what a hassle that one was. It'd be just bad dreams about the '73 vega or the '67 chevyII...for having sold them.{I didn't say that!}

Wow...sounds like time travel! Hey, if your gonna send me a block, send me one of your Aussie webbed 351C blocks and the matching heads...now all I'd need is to aquire another clean '70 cougar for it{sold mine 8 years ago!}...if I did it all over again I'd go with a '67 or '68 cougar next time.
