SHUV...oops...chev!
FYI...to say "mopar" entails all the pentastar cars....dodge, chyrsler and plymouth for the early years and add amc and jeep for late models{yah know...those high perf EXPs and Pacers.........a gremlin with a 304 v8 was actually fairly fast}

Man this is getting more and more complicated. Maybe we should just cut it right back to bare bones and the favorite cars of the 2 main protagonists.

"Corvettes and 'Cudas"

We have 10 months to work this out, so keep those ideas coming in guys.

Big D, my vote goes to keep it more simple...Chevy/Pontiac and Plymouth/Dodge....plenty from those badges to pick from. Corvettes and 'Cudas sounds cool but they're in two different leagues.

I go away for a few weeks and see what happens?

It took me a while to read through the entire thread, but I think I managed to wade through the friendly flak and get the general idea of the build. A few things to suggest, if I may:

If you're going to allow Chevys & Pontiacs, it only seems fair to let the other GM guys - Buick, Olds & Cadillac - in as well. For the Mopar camp, you would have Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler & DeSoto. That should satisfy almost everybody and leave plenty of subject matter to pick from, without getting too crazy.

To make things simpler, you could have a model year cutoff. For example - any GM or any Mopar built from 1950-1990, or any GM or Mopar musclecar built from 1962-1974.

You could also limit custom builds to certain parameters, so you don't get someone shoehorning a Hemi into an early Fordrolet and calling it a Mopar. You could also limit it to street cars only - no roundy-rounds or dragsters. Or make it a "stock engines in stock vehicles" build. Again, these are just suggestions.

Personally, I think a GM vs Mopar musclecar build would be fun, since it would be more of an apple-to-apple thing, and you could easily include the new Camaros, Challengers and Chargers for those who like the new stuff.

But with any GM - Mopar build, I'd be stuck trying to complete two models.

Is this supposed to be a battle of the engines, or a battle of the cars?

Battle of the engines = any car that has either a Chevy engine or the far superior Hemi engine. If it a battle of the cars, it should be any Chevy or any MoPar (Dodge/Plymouth). Or you can open it up to just about anything you want.. I like the Chevy - MoPar. But I can build just about anything.

My wife wants me to build her a Pink Panther 'Cuda, and I already got the paint.

G'day Yoni, I was wondering how long it would take for you to wade in to this mud-pit !!

Herman's fault, not mine !!

That's about the range of makes I was looking for, but I still like the idea of stock, street, mild, wild as options.

I totally agree, but I didn't want to narrow the field too much.

We're looking at a 12 month run time, and in my usual over-ambitious way I'm going to attempt the set of three 1/12th Monogram Chevy kits. Well, a man has to dream !!

This is good, we're starting to meld this mess into something workable. More thoughts please, except from Herman, he doesn't count.

Chrysler bought AMC which included Jeep. And Daimler (Mercedes) bought Chrysler a few years ago. Spun them out to an private equity firm a few years back, don't know if they're private or public now. I have no clue where Lamborghini and Fiat figure in...

IIRC, Chrysler didn't buy AMC until 1987. That would leave the bulk of the AMC vehicles - Javelin, AMX, Rebel, Marlin, Hornet, Matador, etc. - out of the Mopar camp for the purposes of this build. Not that you can find kits of those cars anyway...

Jeep products built after '87 or '88 would qualify as Mopars, though. I guess you could plop a Hemi into a newer Cherokee and call it good.

Here's a thought folks...what if the campaign was limited to two simple things;
1- Chevrolet{Chevy only?} -vs- Mopar{dodge/chrysler/plymouth}
...this was damian's intent from the begining to combat hermon only we get to tag along for our & they're builds.
2- A set time frame....say, 1950{unofficial start of the drag era} to 1974{start of emissions here in the states and the end of muscle cars then}.

The "chevy only" thing can be expanded to other GM makes...Mopar covers anything on that end.
Here's another thought....all things equal, there's 3 mopar versions of cars, so I'd say include 3 versions of GM- chevy plus two more??????

Ok fellas, time to put it to the vote, and if the vote doesn't go my way, then the vote doesn't count

1. Run Time March 1 2011 to March 1 2012 (Date applies to your local time)
2. Manufacturer Based - Chev/Pontiac vs Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge
3. Any scale, any era, stock/street/mild/wild allowed
4. OOB or modified allowed
5. Any number of builds allowed, just one ribbon per person
6. VonCuda and I are Co-leaders, since we get along so well. If one of us is absent, the other will make any calls required
7. Sniping is allowed (in fact required), but if it gets personal Hermon and I will come down HARD
8. All enlisted MUST relax, have fun and enjoy their builds

Please feel free to comment, any objections will be completely disregarded.

Kidding, of course, does this sound ok ??

P.S. for those who missed it earlier (Hermon), here's the ribbon . .

Hehehehe
