D,
Now that's truly impressive for sure. Love the engine details, and the coil bracket using BMF is something I never thought of, but will be using a lot as it does solve a ton of issues for me over painting masking tape.

Joe and Joel, Take care of yourselves and get well as soon as you can. This is a hobby and your health is paramount. The builds can continue later.
Damian, the straight line rocket is looking great, have you thought about some glass on the tach? Something that prominent should have it. I fill gauges with a couple, 3 or 4 coats of future letting them sure overnight each time. Not to late if you stand the model on end and drip it on.
Patrick, the white coat looks great, well done on the rattle can job!

Eye Surgery update.
Well guys, my surgery was postponed till Aug 24 due to more complications. My left eye after evaluation by the surgeon, which now makes the 3rd doctor to exam it and the various scans, has been removed from the equation. The Retina damage is far to great to allow for any vision in the center of the eye, so I only have some vision around the circumference. The pressure from the Cataract surgery could further damage the Retina as will the Molecular Degeneration over time. So the focus now is on the right eye.
And here lies another set of complications. I also have the Retina Edema in that eye's Retina, but the bubbles of blood and liquid never ruptured so there's no swelling. For reasons that no one can explain, those liquid filled bubbles seem to come and go on their own, and draining them isn't an option as they just reappear on their own. They can only do the Cataract surgery when there's no bubbles. Right now there's just one small one that seems to be in the process of draining itself. So they're holding off on the surgery till Aug 24th. I just have to hope that the timing works out.
Right now the best I can expect is much better and brighter vision, but I'm still most likely going to need glasses, just not as strong of a prescription, and of course reading glasses, but I should be able to buy them as non prescription.
Honestly guys, I just can't seem to get a break with this. And just to make it a true family matter, my wife has her orientation meeting with the surgeon as she also have Cataracts in both eyes. I keep on telling her to find her own disease and not copy me.

Thank you, Joel! From you, that means a great deal!
I have a system that seems to work... mist coats 20 minutes apart (usually no more than three) with a swift swipe of 2400 grit sandpaper between to eliminate glitches, then a final "wet" coat. Seems to be working out!
Thanks again! And good luck on your ocular problems!

Joel, sorry to hear that you are still stuck in a holding pattern with the eye surgery, hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Patrick, your method with the rattle cans works beautifully, that is a super smooth finish!

That's a seriously good finish using a can Patrick especially from my perspective for gloss. I can do it with the primers but never get it right with the shiny stuff. I guess more practice.
Joel I am sorry to read of your eyesight issues. I hope it all works but given your issues it does make your builds even more spectacular!
cheers

Damian- thanks for the good words!
Michael- thank you as well! I appreciate the compliment. I do have a question for you. Are you warming the cans? And are you spraying from a consistent distance of about 6 to 8 inches away? Are you also starting your paint pass away from the model and continuing past it?
These are all pretty helpful. Don't worry if the "wet" coat looks a little "dappled". It will smooth out. I know that because I have spent a bunch of hours sanding out drips when I panicked and put on TOO much paint! LOL!
It's all trial and lots of errors!

Thanks guys for the continued support. Going to be a long month, but I'm confident that once the surgery is done, I'll finally be able to see so much better. Can't wait.
today, I'm taking my wife to the same surgeon as she also has Cataracts in both eyes. Getting older truly sucks. Now that I have the time, and the funds to do most anything that I want to, I can't do them do to physical limitations
As for rattle cans, I use the Tamiya primers in the can for small jobs without any issues, but like Michael, every time I've tried color from the can, it was a disaster. Just need to learn how to paint like the can is another air brush. There's just so many times that a 2-5 min paint session is needed, and using a air brush from getting ready to paint, paint, and cleanup takes 10 times longer to accomplish.

That's exactly how I paint with the can... I use the same technique as an airbrush. It's quite a bit more expensive but like you said, it is a time saving and less clean up.
I repurposed an old Mr. Coffee to heat my water and I use Planter's nut cans (not jars) as the holder for the water and the paint can. Doesn't take but about a minute to get can warmed up and away we go!

Joel, I went through Lens replacement surgery a couple of years ago, It's wonderful to see the roads and the scenery without my glasses. Unfortunately I cheaped out. I should have gotten the 'torqued' lenses. They will allow a focus down to about 8", perfect for modeling. I'm only good to about 24" so I have to wear reading glasses to read or model. sigh.

Mark,
I'm still kind of nervous about just how much of the procedure I'm going to feel. They keep on talking about pressure not pain. So did my Dentist, and that pressure sure did feel like pain to me. I'll be given some sedative as well as the numbing drops, so I'm hoping that all will be ok.
I haven't been given any options as to what level of surgery as I understand that there are 3 types, nor anything else. Just to make it a little more interesting, my wife is having cataracts removed from both eyes the following month. Now talk about after 40 years of marriage still doing things together.

Roll cage completed and interior detail painting almost finished, just a few little touch-ups to do.

Thanks David, great tip! I've put a drop of Future in and stood it on it's nose to cure.
Last thing to do now is add the drag chute release lines and connection ropes.
Cheers, D

D,
Outstanding
I also use Pledge for clear lenses these days. Works like a charm, and is generally dry enough in 10 min to not worry about righting the car.

Thanks Michael. You're right, the rear rubber is XOS variety. Here are the front/rear for comparison.

I've given them a coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss, once that's cured I will shoot them with some Nato Black and then detail paint the logo's.

Ok, some experimenting with various goodies to see if I can make some drag chute connection ropes. The braided line is hollow, and I will run some copper wire through so that I can form the bends in the ropes and twist up a connection loop on each end. The black coated wire is for the release cable.

The 1:1 scale model for reference

Not my neatest work, but convincing enough! I will paint the connecting loops dull silver, then the chute packs flat black, and the body is finished.
Last thing to do is paint and set up the wheels, so close to the end now!
Cheers, D

Wow, building a race car is a lot like building an airplane.
You start with the cockpit and the pilot. Although most of my pilots don't have 18 decals.
And I must say Revell has perfected the art of unsticky decals. Not only are they stiff as a board, they're resistant to every decal setting solution I own.
I've resorted to using Future to hold them down.

The drag shoot cables really look the part. I'd say you nailed it for sure.

Managed a couple of hours today to get this one over the line!

A great fun kit to build, the only issues were the decals. I would definitely snap this one up again if I found it!
I also had a couple of personal firsts with using the after market distributor and harness set, and again will be using them again (and fine-tuning my techniques).
Keep the awesome work going folks, I'm looking forward to watching more outstanding completions here.
Cheers, D

That is an awesome looking car Damian!
Not something I would think of trying but your finish and detailing are superb. Love the final detail around the parachute with the cables and cord! I think you've lifted your game to a whole new level.
cheers
